Hello everyone, and welcome to the Fourth Season of the Ultimate Communitylocke Challenge!
Another season has come and gone and now it’s time to start a new run with everyone. And this year we are going to have all 9 generations represented!
So for those who missed the last season or are new to the forums, this is how the challenge works. A player will select a ruleset and then run through a series of games to become a Globetrotter at the end of the run. As you will likely or have likely seen, last season those who completed their challenges got a special usergroup. Let’s say for example you want to do a standard nuzlocke challenge for this event. You will play through a series of games with the same ruleset. There are two options for game types you can do:
If you have any questions about rules or stuff, I recommend you ask me on Discord, i am way more active over there. My name is Stormer and my number is 2922. I will be adding a link to the event discord for this which is a community that has been alive since near the beginning of Season 1. There are many of the ‘Senpai/Globetrotters’ who are there frequently and there are channels for all kinds of questions and assistance. We even have a Double Senpai these days, all known as a Sensei. You will even be added to a usergroup based on your challenge, unless you are a senpai and you will be remaining as such :)
As in Season 3, you will have from the day you sign up until 20241231 to finish your challenge. There is too many games to expect everyone to finish in just one year. (We might need to move to three eventually lol)
And as i did a bad job of this in Season 1, i am gonna include a section that just explains each challenge for quick reference here. Please give each a read before selecting your challenge, unless you already know which you want to do.
Please note that Scarlet and Violet have multiple areas for each cardinal direction. You can catch one Pokemon from each of the unique areas. See the unique game rules for more as well. You can choose which Pokemon you get in those games as there is no real way to random it.
If you have a challenge you like and want to do not in this list, drop me a message and we can discuss the possibility of you doing it for your challenge. Otherwise you can add whatever clauses you like to one of the above challenges as long as you meet the rules set for the event.
Now, how do you sign up? Here is the form you will use. I recommend signing up before August 31st, 2023 at 11:59 PM EST. I honestly do not think anyone signing up after this point can finish before Season 5 begins. Season 4 will officially end on December 31st, 2024 at 11:59 PM EST.

- Alternate 1 - for those without access to a 3ds or one of the gen 6 or 7 games. Games: Gen 1 (RBY, FRLG), Gen 2 (GSC, HGSS), Gen 3 (RSE, ORAS), Gen 4 (DPPt), Gen 5 (BW, B2W2) Note: You must complete BW and B2W2 to get a reward in this mode (pending update).
- Alternate 3- for those with 3DS but no Switch - Games - Gen 1 (RBY, FRLG), Gen 2 (GSC, HGSS), Gen 3 (RSE, ORAS), Gen 4 (DPPt), Gen 5 (BW, B2W2), Gen 6 (XY), Gen 7 (SuMo, USUM),

A standard nuzlocke challenge without any extra rules added. Players are allowed to add any extra clauses they like as long as they do not turn the locke into one of the other challenges listed below
A harder Nuzlocke challenge for those who want to be challenged. The rules are close to a standard with two extra rules added in for a challenge. The first is a level limit based on checkpoints in the game. If a pokemon is over that level before you complete the checkpoint that Pokemon must be boxed until the level limit increases. The second rule is the required use of a Set Mode. This makes swapping out harder.
This is a harder variant of the Nuzlocke + challenge. The only extra rule added to this is no items other than Pokeballs can be used from the bag during battle. This makes the game much tougher.
You play through the entire chain of games using only a single type of Pokemon. Any Pokemon who has at least one of their types that matches your chosen type may be used. Pokemon who evolve into your type can be used but must be evolved as soon as possible. Pokemon who would lose your type when they evolve cannot evolve. Because of gen issues and certain types not existing in early gens, you may not select the Fairy Type at this time for this challenge. Pokemon who gain your type via Mega Evolution does not count as an eligible Pokemon unless they still have one of your types in both forms. IE - Water can use both Gyarados and Mega Gyarados.
Same as a Monotype but you have two types to work with. Any pokemon you catch or use must have at least one of their types match one of your selected types. If they would evolve into a Pokemon who does not have one of their types match yours, you cannot evolve that Pokemon.
In this play mode you can only use a certain color of Pokemon for the challenge. Please refer to the color list to see what Pokemon are available for that color and in what generation. This next part is a change from last time - If you pick a color with a small number of Pokemon you may choose a second small color as well. Example would be Pink and Gray could be used together (check out Magic Wand from last season if you have not, you will get an idea of why this change was needed).
A wedlocke challenge has Pokemon paired up together to fight as a team. This rule set can be difficult as you cannot freely swap Pokemon, only to the partner of the Pokemon in a fight. You also cannot remove Pokemon from your party unless you kill them (or an HM is required). This year there will be an option to do a Rainbow Wedlocke in addition to my own variant as before
A chainlocke is a challenge where you unlock more types as you catch/obtain Pokemon. Your options are limited at the start but grow as you play. Example: You start with Bulbasaur. You start with Grass and Poison as unlocked. You then catch a weedle, unlocking Bug. Then you catch a Caterpie, unlocking Flying. If all Pokemon of a type are dead, that type is locked until you unlock it again by getting or catching a legit pokemon to unlock that type again
You play through the whole challenge with only a single Pokemon. This can be very challenging depending on the pokemon selected.
You are not able to evolve any Pokemon caught in this challenge. However you are allowed to use an evolved Pokemon if you encounter and catch one.
This run is where you team is decided by either their official name or nickname. The team changes to have the pokemon with the higher rank. You can either have the order go ascending or descending from A to Z or Z to A. Is very fun if you use a random noun generator for the nickname version
A new Option for the Season 3 since the time has been extended. You can do this alone or with a partner, you must choose when you sign up. Each Pokemon is linked to another Pokemon on the other game, if someone misses a pokemon, you both miss that areas mon. If something dies, you both lose your Pokemon. It requires team work to complete this challenge.
If you have a challenge you like and want to do not in this list, drop me a message and we can discuss the possibility of you doing it for your challenge. Otherwise you can add whatever clauses you like to one of the above challenges as long as you meet the rules set for the event.

Also, here are some FAQ!
- How do we handle the starter? The Starter always counts as a gift Pokemon. You may obtain it and a pokemon from the area it is in if applicable, some challenges do not allow you to get a gift and a catch.
- How long do I have to finish my challenge? You have the full length of Season 3 to finish your run this time!.
Now for the meat of this, the rules of the challenge!
It was suggested to me and i have agreed, there will be an option to not count the Ultra Necrozma fight as part of a locke. You may deal with it in any guaranteed way you can. This is optional and if you want to still count it, you may. The battle has stopped many nuzlockes and obviously was not intended for a permadeath playstyle as it borders on unfairness. But the decision is yours.
This is optional for anyone not doing Nuzlocke + or Extreme. If you want a little more challenge, sticking to the level of the Ace can add that (especially in Monolockes.)

A standard Nuzlocke challenge. Designed to follow the most basic rules of the challenge.
1. Only catch the first Pokemon in each Route or Area. Caves count as one area and gifts count in the area they are received. All starter Pokemon however count as the area in which you can first nickname them. Some routes based on game have a Pinwheel Forest Clause applied to them.
1a. Dupes clause, you can skip any encounter of a Pokemon from a family you already have caught. This is your choice. If you want two Pidgeot on your team be my guest~
1b. Shiny Clause: Shiny Pokemon may be caught and used regardless of any other rule. This includes the Red Gyarados
1c. HM slaves can be caught and used if none of the Pokemon you own can learn an HM to continue progress. HM slaves have to be released once you catch a Pokemon that can learn this move.
2. Faint =Dead. If it reaches 0 HP, it's dead and must be boxed or released. Regardless of any factor.
3. Nickname all Pokemon, they are your partners and need the love of a name.
4. Games end as follows:
Kanto: Pokemon League Champion
Johto: Johto League Champion
Hoenn: Hoenn League Champion
Sinnoh: Sinnoh League Champion
Black/White: Stop Ghetsis
Black2/White 2: Unova League Champion
Kalos: Kalos League Champion
Alola: Alolan League Champion
Galar: Complete the Champion Cup and Defeat Leon
Paldea: Discover the secrets of Area Zero
5. There is no Rule 5
6. You may use ROM hacks that change encounters and trainers or randomizers that change encounters only. You may not roll moves, items, natures, types, or abilities into the randomizer. Feel free to randomizer leader mons though :)
7. Legendary Pokemon are banned from use.

A harder Nuzlocke challenge for those who are seriously looking for a challenge. There are hard set restrictions and suggested add-ons for increased difficulty. However you do not have to add any of them as Set mode + Level limit should be challenging enough.
1. Only catch the first Pokemon in each Route or Area. Caves count as one area and gifts count in the area they are received. All starter Pokemon however count as the area in which you can first nickname them. Some routes based on game have a Pinwheel Forest Clause applied to them.
1a. Dupes clause: You may not catch any Pokemon that belongs to a evolutionary line you have previously caught (Wurmple exception for Silcoon - Cascoon). This means it is possible in Kanto to run out of new catches. You do not have a limit to the number of times you can try -Suggested Add-on: Limit the number of chances you get to catch something new on each area.

Kalos: Kalos League Champion
Alola: Alolan League Champion
Galar: Complete the Champion Cup and Defeat Leon
Paldea: Discover the secrets of Area Zero
5. There is no Rule 5
6. Set Mode: You must enable this and play it for the entire game.
7. Level Limit based on the next leader's Ace or Champion's Ace. Pokemon who exceed this limit may not battle in that gym. Exception, while you cannot go over the limit prior to entering the elite 4, once inside the limit no longer exists. This also counts during Gym leaders battles, if a Pokemon goes over the current limit during the leader battle it is OK and continue to be used.:
8. No EXP share in Pokemon X/Y or OR/AS. Sun and Moon are alright as long as you're careful not to exceed the level limit.
9. Legendary Pokemon are banned from use.

10. No items can be used from the bag other than pokeballs (all types). Held items are still ok to use.

You may do a naturallocke or a randomlocke. You may also play any ROM hack of a region. You may not randomize anything other than encounters. A Colorlocke is where you choose a color of Pokemon and then play through the entire game with Pokemon of that color. A list of all Pokemon by color can be found here In this you will use the same color for all 7 games. For Naturallockes consider a color that is more common.
Naturallocke: Only catch the Pokemon of your color that exist naturally within the game you are playing. As a bonus, you may exchange giftmons that are not of your color or evolve into your color for a usable Pokemon. There will be a full list of available giftmons in each of the games. If you can make eggs for yourself you may take that option on cards. The way these will be handled will be included in the rules.
Randomlocke: This is done with either a romhack that has random encounters, using the radomizer to random generate encounters, or using AR codes to encounter randomly decided Pokemon of your color. You may not exchange giftmons as you get more access to Pokemon on each route
1. Only catch the first Pokemon of your color in each route or area. This also includes Pokemon that will evolve into your chosen color. Caves count as one area. Suggestion: Make a list of Pokemon in your region that are legit catches and keep it near you while you play
1a. Gift Clause: You may receive a gift and get a catch of your color in each area/Town/or Cave. You are limited to one gift per area though so you cannot get Eevee and Dratini from Celadon City
1b. Dupes Clause: You may ignore all Pokemon not of your chosen color (unless they evolve into your color). You may keep getting encounters until you find a Pokemon you do not already have. You may catch dupes if you desire (to use or hold as backups)
1c. Shiny Clause: Shiny Pokemon may be caught and used regardless of its color. This includes the Red Gyarados in Gen 2.

1. You may only capture the first Pokemon in each Route or Area. If you have 1, 3, or 5 Pokemon in your party, your eligible encounter must be a Pokemon that can partner with your lone wolf (see Stormer's Wedlocke Variant below). Usually this will be the opposite gender of the lone wolf. If it runs or escapes you must move on to the next area. Genderless Pokemon are skipped completely (refer 1c.)
1a. If you encounter a non eligible encounter you must move onto the first legitimate encounter. Prepare for wrong gender Ralts trolling :V
1b. Gift Pokemon including the starters and Fossils are free Pokemon and may be used in addition to the catch in their areas. You are still limited to one gift in each area.
1c. Shiny Pokemon may be caught and used regardless of other rules. They must still be paired with a legitimate partner. Genderless Shinies must be assigned a random gender to play under.
1d. Dupe Clause: Normally for Wedlockes this is a strict no dupes clause but you may choose to catch a dupe or move on to a unique encounter. This applies to the entire evolution line. I recommend having the strict Dupes clause allowing only one from each evolution line.
1e. HM Slaves, HM slaves may be used if none of your current partners can use the HM. You must box the entire pair while using an HM slave. The HM salve cannot battle even if it is a legal catch. Having said that, you may also box a pair to receive gift Pokemon and nickname them.
2. Faint=Dead: Standard box em or release them.
3. Nick name all your Pokemon, they are your partners too~~

6. Pokemon are paired off and may only battle alongside their partner. Once a battle starts the pair that starts the battle must finish it or both members must fall before another pair can take over. If a Pokemon falls in battle their partner must avenge them or fall alongside them. You may replace a fallen partner from the box or go to a new area to find a legitimate Pokemon.
You do not have to use male-female pairs only. You have the option of coming up with your own rules on how that works or if you only want to use same gender pairs that's OK too. If you want a challenge you may use my own special Wedlocke Variant.

Partner rules: After obtaining your starter, and catching the 3rd and 5th Pokémon, you roll a D20. You may also use another method, set your method prior to starting your adventure. A roll of Even results in that Pokémon preferring same gender partners while a roll of Odd will prefer the opposite gender. These Pokémon are locked into this preference until they die. Then your next catch has to be the preferred gender. This Pokémon is also locked into this partner pattern. For example, you catch a female Wurmple as Pokémon 3. you roll a 2 on the D20, making her prefer the same gender Pokémon. My next catch turns out to be a Zigzagoon. If Wurmple dies, you can only partner Zigzagoon with a female Pokémon caught form a new area or a female in the box. She can never be paired with any male Pokémon, even if you have a good choice there, like say a male Tailow for example. Once a Pokémon has a partner, it lasts until one or both dies.
a.If you lose an entire Pair, you first find one replacement for the dead pair. Then you will again roll to find that Pokémon’s preference in partners, locking into the result forever. This will then affect what you can choose to be its partner and possible replacements later on.

This is a varaint of the wedlocke pairing system using natures to deicide sexual preferences. As a suggestion, whichever list you generate to use the same list for all the games. All other rules are the same
A Mono Type challenge is where you play through an entire game using only one type of Pokemon (dual types and Pokemon who evolve into your type are usable). You may choose a type or have fate decide what you use. You can choose from two styles:
Naturallocke: You play with what is available in the game your playing. Choose a type that is fairly common or hope you get lucky. Natural players can do gift replacements if none of the gifts are of your type.
Randomlocke: You play a game with randomized encounters so you have better access to your type in each region. Later games (I.E Gen 6 and 7 where randomizers are not available) you can replace this with an Egglocke.
1. Only catch the first Pokemon of your type in each route or area. This also includes Pokemon that will evolve into your type. Caves count as one area. Suggestion: Make a list of Pokemon in your current region that are legit catches and keep it near you while you play

You also have to decide at the beginning of the challenge if your going with normal alphabet order or a reverse order. Which ever methods you choose, the 6 Pokemon of your team are decided by the highest letters on your list, this applies for both regular and reserve order. If you go with nicknames, use a random generator to get your names so the fates may decide your team. If you obtain a Pokemon with a letter higher than what is on your team, you must replace the Pokemon with the lowest letter in the list. If you like you may have the letter than affects your team switch between gyms or towns.

This kind of run is where you pay through an entire game without letting any Pokemon evolve. This kind of run is very challenging :) I'll be gentle with you guys

Shiny Pokemon can be used regardless of this factor but they are frozen in the form you catch them at (calling someone getting a shiny Metapod right now ;P) If a Pokemon evolves it must be released or permaboxed. Otherwise you must get random grass encounters with the exception of the mine where all Pokemon are overworld encounters. If you are playing a card you can trade in eggs for your replacements. I can provide ones for Gen 6 and 7 games (if anyone else wants to volunteer for egg trades or helping with trade evos please note so in your signups.) On ROMs, you can use AR to encounter a eligible catch. Use this site to roll a Pokemon: http://wyncorporation.com/pokemon/. Pokemon must be obtained at their basic level unless the levels of the wild Pokemon have gone past the level they normally evolve. Catching Pokemon in this manner does not count as a route or area catch.
Don't forget to post your runs in the Events section with the [UCL] Tag!
