BREAKING NEWS: There has been a murder in the nuzforums community! The police have already identified and arrested the suspect, and the trial is pending [2 days after this thread goes into 24-hour mode]. There are rumors spreading that things aren't as they seem and that someone might be being set up. fortunately, the Wright Anything Agency is on the case! …and a bunch of other faceless attorneys for some reason. Of course, the odds are stacked against them as usual. In fact, this kangaroo court of system seems to have gotten even worse, and now winning cases is less about proving your argument and more about being the last lawyer standing. Can the defense attorneys still prevail under these circumstances, or will the team of prosecutors see their own version of justice tonight? Welcome to,

Turnabout Mafia

1. At the start of the game, the player are divided into defense (village) and prosecution (mafia). Everyone will receive a PM telling them their role, and prosecutors will be told who the other prosecutors are.
2. The game will consist of alternating investigation (night) and trial (day) phases, starting at the Investigation phase, the day before the first trial. Investigation phases last 24 hours, and trial phases last 48 hours.
3. While investigating, players can send night actions by responding to their role PM with their action. However, prosecutors are known to play dirty, so in addition to night actions listed in each role description, the prosecution can collectively choose one player to intimidate into dropping the case each night.
4. During the trial, all remaining lawyers can discuss in the thread to determine their next course of action. At any time, anyone can cast an Objection toward another player. At the end of the day, if more than 50% of the living players object to the same player, that player will be held in contempt of court and forced to leave the case.
5. When voting for who to bully while investigating, the prosecutor that actually does the bullying is decided by the prosecution. This is done by having the visitor of their choice include that they will be the visitor in their night action PM. If none do so, the last prosecutor to vote will visit.
6. Once a lawyer is off the case, they role will be revealed in the thread.
7. The system heavily favors the prosecution. The defense wins when all prosecutors are removed, but the prosecution wins when the number of prosecutors is equal to half of the remaining players at the end of a trial phase. All third parties have unique win conditions explained in their role description.
8. If you have a night action, and you don't post or send any actions for three consecutive phases, you will be inactive killed. If you don't have a night action, you'll be inactive killed after missing two consecutive day phases. Players killed by inactivity do not win, even if their win condition is met.
9. Don't do metagaming. That's when you use info like "Oh, that guy is using the PM system shortly after the night began! He must have some sort of night action!" Metagaming has many forms, so if you think something might be metagaming, check with the host first.
10. Play for your side. If your actions are obviously aiming to sabotage your team's chances of winning, that is bad. If you think something might count as playing against your side, ask the host if it is.
11. Don't post in the thread during the night phase.
12. Don't post anything that could influence the game after you're off the case. This also applies if you aren't in the game at all.
13. Don't copy and paste or screencap anything privately sent to you by the host or other players as a form of evidence. This is to make your information not super easy to confirm.

Now for the gimmick because I apparently can't make a normal mafia game to save my life, even for my first game: They're called investigation phases for a reason, even if you're not a pr you won't just be sitting on your ass during them. After all, in the courtroom, evidence is everything.

Evidence rules:
  • Each investigation phase, 1/4th of the remaining players (rounded up) will automatically find evidence that can be presented during the trial. What type of evidence they find is chosen at random.
  • Which players receive evidence is also random, except for the rule that one cannot receive evidence twice in a row.
  • Contradictions have a 50% chance of revealing the presenter, all other evidence does not reveal.
  • Contradiction (gun) - A good old-fashioned contradiction, present this to reveal a fatal flaw in another lawyer’s argument, demoralizing them into dropping the case.
  • Supporting Evidence (bulletproof vest) - Proof to back up your claims. When hit with a contradiction, you will automatically present this to counter the other evidence, keeping you on the case. This can be used to prevent demoralization outside of the courtroom as well.
  • Mystery (snowball) - This evidence raises more questions than it answers. Present this and another lawyer will be made to spend their next investigation phase solving the mystery instead of using their night action.
  • Shocking Detail (flinch/blinder) - This detail sure is shocking! So shocking, that presenting it will render another lawyer speechless and unable to object (or change their objection if they already objected) for the remainder of this trial phase.
  • Updated Autopsy Report (no equivalent) - You just had to update that damn autopsy report, didn’t you? Present this to change the details of the case, rendering any evidence another lawyer has useless.

Defense:

Phoenix Wright

The one and only, the turnabout master himself! You have the most trials under you belt among the defense, and if there’s one thing you’ve learned, it’s how to expect the unexpected. You start the game with a piece of evidence that, at face value, seems useless, but when presented will somehow turn the entire case on its head, destroying another lawyer’s argument so completely they drop the case out of shame. This will not reveal the presenter and cannot be countered by supportive evidence.

Apollo Justice

Unlike all these other fancy shmancy lawyers with their weird gimmicks and crazy costumes, you chose to be the grounded straight man of the bunch… who happens to have 3 different backstories, 4 fathers, 2 mothers (only one of each which are still alive), a sister you don’t know about, the supernatural ability to read people’s poker faces, and a partridge in a pear tree. Uhh… anyway, once per investigation phase you can visit someone and use your sensing ability to read them for tells, telling you what types of evidence they have/found that phase, if any. Your keen senses also allow you to spot fakes from a mile away, so if you receive forged evidence, you’ll automatically throw it out and find real evidence in its place.

Athena Cykes

You’re the newest (and least appreciated) member of the Wright Anything Agency, With your super sensitive hearing, your trusty Widget, and degrees in both law and behavioral psychology, you’d think you’d get to lead more than a total of two cases in two games, only one with any plot relevance. Anyway, once per investigation phase, you may visit someone and listen for discord in their heart, revealing their emotions, and alignment, to you.

Prosecution:

Franziska Von Karma

You are perfect in everything, and those foolish fools on the defense are truly fools if they think their foolish theories can save their foolish client from a foolish fate only a fool deserves. You start the game withholding a vital piece of evidence which, when the time comes to present it, will trap another lawyer in their own argument, forcing them to concede in defeat and leave the case. This will not reveal the presenter and cannot be countered by supportive evidence.

Klavier Gavin

Congratulations, you’re the least evil prosecutor on the bench! Unfortunately, you also have a brother who, despite being a defense attorney, is invested in seeing this case reach a guilty verdict for some reason. Once per investigation phase, you may select another player, and Kristoph will go behind your back and guarantee they ‘find’ a piece of forged evidence that will backfire on them if presented.* This ignores the 1/4th rule, if the player you select happens to be one of the few who would find evidence naturally that phase, they only get the forged evidence. Also, you're not actually the one giving them them evidence, so you cannot choose what kind of evidence they get,

*Forged contradictions and supporting evidence will get the presenter expelled from the case, a forged mystery will force the presenter to solve it themself instead of investigating that day, a forged shocking detail will render the presenter speechless and unable to object or change their objection for the rest of that trial day, and a forged autopsy report will simply reveal to be useless itself when presented.

Simon Blackquill

You’re the twisted samurai, a former convict and master of psychological manipulation. With your brazen attitude, heavy eyeliner, and pet hawk, you are one of the least subtle characters in the series (and that’s saying something), yet somehow your specialty in court is subtle suggestion. Once per investigation phase, you may visit someone and “suggest” a name to them. Any night actions the player uses that phase will be directed to the suggested player, instead of their actual target. If they don’t use any night actions that phase, or don’t have any, then any evidence they present during the following trial phase will be directed instead.

3rd Party

Miles Edgeworth

You were once known as the demon prosecutor, but have come a long way since then, and now have a long and complicated history with the law. Though your profession is still “Prosecutor”, your only real interest is in finding the “Truth” of this case and seeing it brought to light. You’re so persistent in your pursuit that nothing can make you leave the case, not even the daily objection. You start the game with a piece of evidence that is only half of the Truth, and will be told the role of the person who has the other half. Once per investigation phase, you may visit someone and learn their role. During the trial, if you present your half of the Truth to the player whose role is the one you’re looking for, the other half of the Truth will be revealed, the withholding of said evidence will get them removed from the case (which cannot be countered by supporting evidence), and you will leave the game a winner. Alternatively, if that person leaves the case for any other reason, or you present your half to the wrong person, then the Truth will be lost and you will leave the game a loser. You also lose if a verdict is reached before the Truth its revealed.

Despite being a Grass-type, Casual is a flaming lesbian. Fire and Grass don't usually mix, but somehow it works out here.
This... is going to be something, alright.

A passionate bunch, Argentums are limited by their own minds. Who knows what happens when they break through their mental barriers?
