Touhou Puppet Play Enhanced (Reloaded)

A hack of Pokemon Fire Red (U)(Squirrels)

Current Version: 6.8A2

What is Touhoumon?:

Much like Machomuu, I shall give you a bit of a description of what Touhoumon is. Touhoumon is a rom hack of pokemon that replaces them with touhou characters, hence the name. It's similar to Moemon in that regard, but unlike (most) versions of Moemon, Touhoumon actually changes the mons themselves, the moves, type interactions, and as of the '1.8' version of Touhoumon, the types themselves. The original hacks for Touhoumon eventually became templates, in both Japan and the West, to make their own hacks. Notable examples include Touhoumon Purple, Touhoumon Another World, Touhoumon Gensokyo Scenario (which hasn't been released as of the writing of this thread), and Touhou Puppet Play Enhanced.

Touhou Puppet Play Enhanced is the one that we'll concern ourselves with mostly here. The original version of this was created as a compilation patch in Japan, adding a bunch of touhoumon patches together to try to add in more to the game. The patches I remember are the "Johto" patch, and the "Sliding Evolutions" patch. Eventually, Aichiya Sanae, the author of Touhoumon Another World and World Link ported it over to an English version of Fire Red, and translated it. It's remembered fondly, and is probably overall the best of the three 'major' hacks he's credited to.

Why does THIS hack exist?:
Unfortunately, this compilation still had problems. The maps of Johto were rather lazy overall, the trainer balance was non-existant, there were some rather odd choices in pacing between the regions, and the slide evolution system broke the game into little pieces. I saw all of these, and in my boredom decided: "You know what? Let's fix this up a bit for myself."

And so I tried, at the very least. Whether I succeeded, I don't know, but I put a lot of my heart in it. Eventually it got to the point where, I put so much work into it, that I thought it'd be a shame to just keep it to myself. And that's why you're reading this today.

Features:
I won't be able to get them all in here. My memory is bad, and my foresight is bad enough to make sure that I didn't exactly take notes on most of them. But I'll try to get all of the ones I remember. A lot of these are native to "Enhanced", but this might be helpful for those who haven't played the original.

- Physical/Special split
- Three Regions: Kanto, Sevii, and Johto
- Edited Trainers and Gym Leaders
- Enemies with EVs
- Slightly expanded plot
- The ability to evolve your team beyond the 'Kanto Dex' limitations before beating the Elite 4.
- Various Battle Music changes.

There's probably more, but as I mentioned, I can't remember them all right now. It's mostly a rebalancing hack anyway.

Screenshots:

Known Bugs:
- When you are in the following areas, you may not be displayed properly on the World Map:
Pattern Bush
Viridian Forest
Power Plant
Boneka Tower
Safari Zone
Boneka Mansion
Mt. Ember

This is not a game breaking bug, but I am still unable to fix this, as I am not exactly good at world map editing.

- The swap maps button in the town map has incorrect borders. I can not fix this at the moment, but it is only a visual problem. If another problem happens because of this, then I shall rework on 6.85 with a backup and re-release.

- MPSuika, ExMarisa, GTensoku, and SGSanae may have incorrect dex entries. This is something I can not fix.

- Kokoro is one dex number behind Chibi Kokoro.

- The music starts cutting out at around Violet City. It should regain full functionality at about Azalea or Goldenrod.
(This might be fixed, but keeping it in here just in case it isn't)

Touhou Puppet Play Enhanced 6.9-b Touhoudex, Location, and many other additions document, made by KAnon2020. It's like the document just above, but updated for 6.9-b.

Credits:
- Hemogurobin a1c, for making and supporting Touhou Puppet Play up until the original 1.812 version.

- Aichiya Sanae, for putting together this hack to begin with.

- Neotornado (If he has an account here and it's not named that, I don't know what it is), for helping rebalance many of the routes in Kanto and the Sevii Islands, fixing the 'Shard' Evolution process to occur before you get the national dex, rebalancing the Ten Desires (and a few other) mons some, changing the Game Corner prises, help with some EVs, general advice, and help on testing.

- Faust, my significant other, who has suggested a few post-game events and areas, as well as having helped me test.

- Jambo51 for some of the ASM I added to this hack, such as the regional music.

- Hopeless Masquerade (Currently "Lost") from Pokecommunity, for making the trainer editor that made this possible

- Pokemon Liquid Crystal and Pokemon Shiny Gold Sigma for Silver sprites (If either party has a problem with this, I will remove the most recent version of the hack)

- The Maker of Pokemon Shiny Gold Sigma for where I found the Jessie and James battle sprite. If someone knows where it actually comes from, let me know and I will give proper credit.

- The various toolmakers and other people credited in the original version.

- DoesntKnowHowtoPlay for making the trainer EV ASM.

- The maker(s) of the japanese ROM hack "ポケットモンスター フレイムレッド", or, "Pokemon Flame/Flare Red", for many of the maps used in the Johto segment of this game. While not perfect due to redoing them by hand, or just having slightly different ideas and changing parts of it, I did use these maps. (Oh god, I hope I got the names right).

- The people in the next spoiler for all of the contributions I put into 6.5

For the new Features added into 6.5:
ModExe - LykO
Ev-Reducing Berries - Spherical Ice

Poison Survival - daniilS

Different versions. One is, as far as I remember, more overall stable but does have less stuff.

I'm mostly keeping it as a sort of archival sort of deal. The 'new' version is what you need.

Hey. Been playing the hack you've made here a little bit and made it passed the first round of the Elite Four. It's been hard to tell what edits exactly you've made here but I've got a couple of things to bring up. I played a little bit of the original 1.8 enhanced but it was a few years back so forgive me if I'm suggesting something that's

1. The Vs. Seeker. Return it to us...please my puppets are dying. Why is it gone augh grinding is the worst without it. Also There's very clearly and EV trainer on cycling road but without the VS. Seeker I don't know how I'm supposed to make use of it. I've been talking to npcs fairly regularly since the polished flavor is appealing so if it was moved to earlier like the running shoes were I don't think I missed it.
2. Boneka tower is a bit rough. It's being gatekept by a rival with puppets in the early-mid 30s and then the entire tower is full of low 20s channelers and level 15 wilds. We already need the silph scope to get in here so raising the level of wilds (for an easier grind spot for beasts down the line) and the trainers wouldn't be bad. The rocket grunts at the top also jump back up to the low 30s area so why is there just a random level drop in the middle of this section?
3. Some wild puppets took actual hours to find. CLayla, CKoishi, and CFlandre are ridiculously rare, so bumping up their chances of appearing would be very nice thanks.

Pretty good stuff insofar, though I'm not certain which bits exactly are your additions yet. I'm going to keep playing and I'll let you know what else I dig up in the process.

The edits I've made by this point are generally fixing up trainers and the overall level curve. There IS some new stuff in Johto, but you don't seem to have made it there yet. Also some music changes, and enemies have EVs and Natures after a certain point. There were also some availability changes done in parts of Kanto and Sevii that were changed. This hack was generally done to make TPPE a bit better than it was, because I was generally slightly disappointed with how it was. Mostly because 1.8 itself has a garbage in-game, because it was mostly designed for competitive touhoumon battling.

And now, for the individual questions.

1: (Edited) I might be able to bring it back in the next update. Might.

2: Generally I do have a slightly different curve for bosses and trainers, but I looked through that and noticed that, yes, it was slightly undertuned even in according to that, so I did make some changes. Generally trainers are closer to mid-20s, inching towards late 20s, with the mook rockets slightly nerfed as well to fit that, and the mons generally being 20-24 instead of 15-20 . Jessie and James are untouched, since they're boss trainers.

3: I will not be making any large adjustments to wild mons as of yet. I'm waiting on something to be finished first before I do so, but if I remember correctly, those lines are at least a slight bit more common in Johto. I could be wrong, though. It's been a while since I looked at it.

Until that is done, assuming it gets done, I will not be releasing a new version because I'd rather get everything out in one shot.

This may or may not breach a rule or two, I'm uncertain. But I have been relatively neglectful of this page. This is not a newer update from my pokecommunity thread, but I am at least bringing the version on here up to snuff.

This should overall hopefully be the best version of (my version of) the hack. I haven't heard of anything too severe that happened to it. That's not to say there isn't anything wrong, but still.

In comparison to the original 6.8 version, this one has an additional segment in Johto for the Johto League, and likely some other side content that was created.

If the last version you have played was released when this thread was made, then you may find a fair few surprises. I hope people enjoy this, much as I have enjoyed creating this.
