"Top 6" Team Maker

Ok so I had an idea for a silly new game which can hopefully be creative, amusing and possibly even educational , we’ll see whether it sticks or not.

Each poster gives the following participant a title of a top 6 list. It could be anything they desire, for example “6 deadliest animals”, “6 favorite beverages in the UK” or “6 most popular horror films in the world”. Whatever you want as long as it is 6.

The following user then googles up the answer (do make the subjects simple enough and make sure you can find the answer yourself in a few moments of search, no more than that, this is not a riddle game. And the answer doesn’t have to be totally accurate in case there is debate about it, this is not a test). That user then fits a pokemon to each of the items on the list. For example the team based of the 6 deadliest animals in the world:

1) Buzzwole – (Mosquitoes kill ~700,000 people each year).

2) Seviper – (Snakes kill ~50,000 people each year).

3) Houndoom – (Dogs kills ~25,000 people each year).

4) Cutiefly – (Tsetse flies kill ~20,000 people each year).

5) Feraligatr – (Crocodiles kill ~1000 people each year).

6) Hippowdon – (Hippopotamus kill ~500 people each year).

(Pretty feral and balanced team except for Cutiefly. I went with an easy yet morbid example. Others can be less obvious).

The user then ends by giving a top 6 list for the next player to make a team out of, and so on.

Alright, I'll take this on.

1: Cofagrigus (Unovan Form): The Pokemon most closely associated with ancient Egypt, which was founded circa 3100 B.C.E. Chosen because of the association with sarcophagi and mummies.
2: Pangoro: The Pokemon most closely associated with ancient China, which was founded circa 2070 B.C.E. Chosen because the Panda is from China and Pangoro is based on the panda species.
3: Copperajah: The Pokemon most closely associated with India, which was founded circa 1500 B.C.E. Chosen because it is based on the Asian elephant and the name Copperajah is a blend of copper and Maharajah (Indian title of great king).
4: Zebstrika: The Pokemon most closely associated with Ethiopia, which was founded circa 980 B.C.E. Chosen because Ethiopia is home to Grévy's zebra, which is also known as the 'Imperial Zebra', and Zebstrika is based on a zebra.
5: Crobat/Swoobat: The Pokemon most closely associated with Greece, which was founded circa 800 B.C.E. Chosen because Greece is home to about 20 different species of bats. Given the different species, I felt that having both of them would be fine for this list.
6: Ninetales (Kanto Form): The Pokemon most closely associated with Japan, which was founded circa 660 B.C.E. Chosen because the kitsune is heavily associated with Japanese mythology and Ninetales is based on the kitsune. While there are other Pokemon based on Japanese mythology, this is the first one that came to mind and also came from generation 1.

It's a pretty decent team with no real type overlapping, though they are missing a surfer. At least they can fly with Crobat.

I went with basing them on the original team's Zords, rather than color (unless I can do both):

3. (Shiny) Arcanine, based on the Yellow Ranger's Saber-Toothed Tiger Dinozord.

That's a great idea for a team! Unfortunately though I strongly disagree with these choices, and thanks to this task my opinion of Rotten Tomatoes has fallen dramatically, but I guess that's not such a bad thing :P. Anyway, here they are, top 6 movies of all times according to Rotten Tomatoes (notice almost all movies are from the last 3 years):

1) Liepard - (Black Panther 2018)
2) Mewtwo (Avengers: End Game 2019) (I considered Nidoking for the looks, but Mewtwo gets the vibe of the super villain far better).
3) Gengar (Us 2019) (Didn't know much about this film, but from what I read about it, it seems fitting).
4) Klefki - (Toy Story 4 2019)
5) Hatterene (The Wonderful Wizard of Oz 1939)
6) Orbeetle (Lady Bird 2017)

A surprisingly creepy and other worldly team, I rather like it!

This team is very physically oriented, and quite slow with the exception to Rapidash and Solgaleo. I could see this winning some battles, but it's probably gonna be losing more battles than it wins.

That should be interesting, I'm guessing lots of islands, tiny European states, and of course the Vatican. Let's see if I'm correct:

1) Persian (Principality of Monaco - 38,100) - known as the playground of the ultra-rich, a classical elegant pokemon that hold the power to generate money fits it well.
2) Falinks - (Republic of San Marino - 33,55) - A tiny Roman influenced brave defender fits this country perfectly. An extremely small European republic, located in the heart of Italy with no other borders, has survived any attempts throughout history of invasion against all odds. Its system of law is heavily based on the Roman law and it is the oldest surviving Republic and is a direct descendant of the Roman Empire.
3) Corsola (Republic of Palau - 17,900) - This tiny Micronesian island country consists of an archipelago which includes lots of coral based island and impressive barrier reefs.
4) Galarian Corsola (Republic of Nauru - 11,000) - Another Micronesian island country, it is surrounded by a coral reef. This country underwent decades of abuse and damage to its ecology, natural resources, coral bleaching, and even the destruction of most of the island land itself due to excessive mining. Also after hundreds of years of being conquered and reconquered by different empires not much is left of the original culture, only a few customs remain, sort of a ghost shell of its past identity. It is now hopefully on its way to recovery and creating a new path for itself.
5) Alolan Exeggutor - (Tuvalu - 10,200) - Much like Naruu and Palau, Corsola (most of the islands are in fact coral atolls) and Galarian Corsola (they suffered massive coral bleaching) could have fitted this one well, but I decided to go with something more positive . Tuvalu has a rich and unique Polynesian culture, and most of its agriculture is based on Coconut.
6) Slowking - (Vatican City - 825) - Ok this was a hard one. I considered picking Klefki because of its Coat of Arms, but it felt too silly. Falinks could have worked well for the Swiss Guard but I used it already. There are also many pokemon gods but picking them to represent a Christian Theocracy felt a bit off. I decided to go with Slowking because A) It has an impressive tall crown, which is both a known feature of the pope (the Mitre) and is on the flag/coat of arm. B) It is a calm and non-physical Psychic type, which felt fitting for a religious country, and also Water which fits well with its proximity to water (even though it currently doesn't have access to the sea, it used to when it spread over larger portions of now day Italy).

Well that's a pretty decent team,,and can certainly pose a challenge for a late game player with a variety of types and coverage.

Ok, that was fun (and much harder than I thought it would be!).

Next I want to see a team based on the 6 most popular sports globally (pick whatever list fits you).

if we think about the main cast of friends as ash's twerp alliance; then the list goes on like this

PKMN1: croagunk
Brock's ace in D/P anime. brock is the main side character for me, he travelled with ash in half of his journeys. and every time i think about brock, i see him poison jabbed by his croagunk.

PKMN2: Braixen
Serena's ace pokemon and her starter. braixen is just rememberable and when i think about ash's friends, i remember serena taking ash's first kiss.

PKMN3: Starmie
Misty's ace and powerhouse. misty is the first companion of ash, and starmie comes here as her ace.

PKMN4: Dragonite
Iris' powerhouse in anime. i just liked the rivalry between dragonite and ash's charizard.

PKMN5: Lycanroc/midnigth
Gladion's ace and go-to pokemon. i loved the rivalry between it and ash's lycanroc/dusk

PKMN 6: PIKACHU
who can forget the star of the show? pikachu was with ash till the day 1. he was with ash in the good days and bad days. and that, people, is a true friendship and brotherhood comes from experience.

I'm pretty sure they meant the cast of the show: Friends. You know, Ross, Phoebe, Chandler, etc.

Anyway, guess I'm exposing my questionable taste to the public now.

• Aegislash [Chara, Undertale] Ghost? Check. Controls people? Check. Knife? Eh, close enough.
• Tsareena [Franziska von Karma, Ace Attorney] This pokémon is described as being cruel and vicious, looks like that, and most importantly, can naturally learn Power Whip.
• Lycanroc, Midnight Form [Madeline, Celeste] Not only can it naturally learn Rock Climb and has the right "stubborn" attitude for her character, but it also has a duality gimmick to represent both her and the "other part of her" (aka Badeline), and even has a balanced (Dusk) form to represent the two them together (when her hair is pink).
• Turtonator [Bowser, Super Mario] It's a fire/dragon type with a spiked shell, need I say more?
• Zoroark [N, Pokémon Black/White] Is it cheating if I use a pokémon character? But yeah, this one should be pretty obvious.
• Porygon-Z [Tartar, Splatoon 2] Made by humans, corrupted over time, okay, I got kinda lazy with this last one. It was hard enough just thinking of a sixth character.

Overall, a pretty balanced team, no overlapping types or anything. And that's all I can tell you.

And since it's on my mind, make a Pokémon team based off the winning teams of the first 6 splatfests in Splatoon 2.

• Alcremie: Based on the Ice Cream Team (I know it´s tecnically whipped cream, but looks like ice cream)
• Magikarp: Team Mayo, because Fish goes really well with Mayonaise.
• Salamence: Team Flight, because Salamence´s big dream is to be able to fly.
• Golbat: Team Vampire, pretty obvious choice.
• Aegislash: Team Fantasy, nothing more fantastical than this.

Ah the main issue here is I'm ashamed to say I didn't play a lot of the famous games from this year like Half Life 2 (I totally should), EverQuest II and Halo 2 (Lots of IIs in this year), and also there are many games here I played and know are highly loved like Doom 3 and GTA: San Andreas who are really good games and deserve an honorable mention. Still I'll make this list based on my personal opinion and favorites, and only rank those I'm very familiar with (either played or know enough about).

6. Crobat. Based on Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. One of the first RPG games I ever played that really gave you a sense of choice and an open and unique world that is nothing like any other RPG games I ever played before (all set in a classical fantasy game). A true cult classic. (Crobat is the closest thing pokemon has to offer to a vampire as a bloodsucking bat, though I'd love to see a more vampire based pokemon in the future).
5. Dhelmise. Based on the wonderful Sid Meier's Pirates! 2004 (aka the remake). Speaking about an open world, this game really did its best to make you feel like a Caribbean pirate, living your life in whatever way you see fit, and with no clear goals, just an open sandbox of possibilities. (Not a lot of "Pirate Pokemon" but what is more pirate fables based than a possessed Anchor?).
4. Chansey. Based on The Sims 2. Everyone knows the Sims, and for a good reason. This game really revolutionized the idea of what a video game is, creating a living digital "doll house". I spent countless hours on this game, and bought almost every possible expansion (cursed EA). (Well, there is no "Human Pokemon", but a pokemon that is based on nurturing and social interaction feels right here).
3. Beheeyem. Based on Unreal Tournament 2004. Ok this might be my personal biased, after all Call of Duty and Counter Strike expansions also came out on this year and they are far more popular first person shooters. Still, something about the wild nature of online warfare with crazy weapons Unreal Tournament had to offer was quite unique and very addictive at the time, and I think in many ways it along Quake are the ancestors of modern games such as Overwatch. (Beheeyem, cause, it is an alien, not that complicated).
2. Falinks. Based on Rome Total War. One of my favorite all times strategy games, and it is thanks to games like this that I development my great love for history as a teenager than I took with me to this day. Took a totally new approach to strategy games than that of any game before it, giving much more emphasis on ultra realistic battle tactics. (Falinks is more inspired by the Greek Phalanx formation, still playing the Greek cities was a fun option in this game, plus Falinks is also somewhat inspired by Roman style).
1. Rayquaza. Based on Pokemon Emerald. I can already hear you calling me a cheat for choosing a pokemon game, but it is not my fault it is one of my favorite pokemon games and came out this year! Not much more to say here. A better version than Ruby and Sapphire (I dearly miss enhanced versions, someone avenge pokemon Z for me, and tell Game Freak The Armor Isles are not my cup of tea), famous among others for the Battle Frontier repeatability (which I'm ashamed to say I never played). My go to game when it comes to simple Nuzlockes. Great game. (The box legend of course).

Well this team is pretty powerful as it has one of the strongest legendary pokemons in it. Still, even without it can give you quite a fight.

Oh, this one is really interesting and unique! I love themes! I'll be using the Sw/Sh Pokedex for this and this article to select the paintings.
My team based on famous paintings:


1. Gothitelle (MONA LISA) - The woman in this painting has secrets, and Gothitelle feels the same way - mysterious with a 'don't care' type of look
2. Musharna *SHINY* (STARRY NIGHT) - The painting has a dream-like visual to it, and this pokemon is all about dreams. I like the shiny because it almost matches the color scheme.
3. Hatterene (GIRL WITH THE PEARL EARRING) - The painting depicts a feminine center, and Hatterene definitely falls into that.
4. Machamp (CREATOR OF ADAM) - Big, beefy pokemon just like the painting. I have no other reason!
5. Chandelure (GLOW OF HOPE) - The settle glow makes me think of a ghost leading the way with a candle.
6. Mudsdale - (NAPOLEON CROSSING THE ALPS) - The man is riding a powerful-looking horse, and Mudsdale fits it!

Make a team based on the year 2020

1. Yamask-Galar - As a Pokemon, it's objectively worse off in the long run because of its lack of a mask. It's also dead.
2. Weezing - Another COVID-19 representative on this team. Generally looks like a virus, and also, toxic gas -> airborne infection.
3. Simisear - Both represents the general horribleness of 2020, in addition to the Australian wildfires at the start of the year.
4. Primeape - Represents American police in 2020. Cops are pigs and nothing but uncontrolled and violent in virtually every situation.
5. Gumshoos - Take a wild guess who I'm talking about here.
6. Guzzlord - Corporations that continue to enrich themselves on everything they can, exploiting their workers and etc. during the pandemic. The rich getting richer.

Omg I remember that! I think I only saw the first two seasons and it was a while back so I apologise in advance if I get anything wrong ;p (also by default this review contains spoilers!)

Eleanor - Weavile. Dark types are known for being cunning and underhanded, and Weavile is a very fast trickster. I remember Eleanor being quick-thinking, pragmatic and showing a lot of ingenuity in a crisis, but she was a pretty harsh person before the events of the show.
Chidi - Bronzong. The Psychic type suits him being smart and philosophical, but the Pokemon is as slow to act upon a decision as he was - and I had a hard time deciding whether to use a Heatproof or Levitate one in Pokemon Diamond. Also that bell design is as obscure as that long book he wrote ;p
Tahani - imma say Persian. Tahani is as proud and sophisticated as this cat, but both of them have been a bit overlooked. Tahani had to compete with her sister, and Persian had to compete with Normal types that didn't suck after Gen 1. Sorry, Persian ;p
Jason - Swoobat. He wasn't always the brightest in the room, and Swoobat only has Abilities like Unaware and Simple. But, they could both act quickly and pull off some unexpected manoeuvres very occasionally (just check out some Simple Calm Mind Swoobat strats). Considering how he was able to win over a literal AI, the Courting Pokemon is also just right for him. And they both look so happy! xD
Michael - Darkrai. Literal trapping people in their worst nightmare powers over here
Janet - Porygon2. She was this literal sentient computer thing who could be incredibly helpful in the right circumstances xD also both of them are adorable imo
