I’m BACK! School is still a lot (I have a final group project in 3 of my 4 classes, send help) but I’ve been able to carve out some time to do shiny recolors so I can at least share some of those! Maybe someday I’ll even be able to write another FFC update…
Also RIP my funny April Fools idea for this blog where I did shiny recolors of sprites from a different franchise. Maybe next year.
This is one where I was somewhat foiled by the sprite shading, at least in Darkrai’s case. I wanted to give it a full moon vibe but the shadows just don’t quite work. I still like it a lot, though! For Cresselia, I swapped its gold moon palette for a silver one, and then just picked some colors I thought went nicely with that.
I never know what to do for the dog line recolors, so I often just default to making them dog colors. Real life dogs are brown sometimes, right? Right. I think these two turned out nice!
I had a LOT of fun designing these! Regirock is a minecraft diamond block. Registeel is gold. Regice is a cherry popsicle. Regigigas… well, okay, it’s just fall-themed because when I see leaves on a thing that’s just what I default to. It couldn’t be helped, you see. I’m very happy with them!
Emolga: Egge’s Pick
I could’ve SWORN that I’d done Emolga before, but it’s not on my list, so I have no idea where that memory came from. Emolga’s coloration lends itself to a fairly subtle shiny, but I think I made it work a bit better than its actual shiny does! The orange looks nice, and is coincidentally a nice throwback to shiny Pikachu!
Minccino Line: Egge’s Other Pick
Honestly, this shiny recolor was just an attempt to test out a color palette for a future character of mine. I think it doesn’t quite fit what I’m going for, but I like the more blonde fur color! It’s pretty cute.
Sprite Retrospectives
I don’t have any particular sprites to retrospect on today, so I’m just going to go down my list of sprites I’ve done but haven’t talked about! Today we’ll finish up the Kanto lines I haven’t critiqued before.
Tangela Line
This line is pretty good! I like that Tangela gets a very cheerful green color, and gold on Tangrowth looks nice. It’s a bunch of cheesy pasta!
Caterpie Line
For the record: No, I’m not sure why this image is so big. I don’t feel like fixing it. Sowee. For this recolor, I went with making the line look more like Caterpie’s shiny, since I really like that one already! Metapod is pretty bland, but I think the gold and silver Butterfree more than makes up for the bleh nature of that one.
Rattata Line
Another gold and silver shiny line! I feel like this one is a bit less effective, honestly. It’s fine, but it could have been a lot better. Oh well, live and learn. Should’ve made Raticate purple ala Nuzrooke.
Magnemite Line
I know what I was GOING for in this one, but I do not think I succeeded. I wanted to show a copper aging effect! I made this pre-Minecraft copper and honestly, were I to do it again, I’d just choose colors directly from that game. Minecraft really got the copper colors down. I really like the idea of this design, but unfortunately you can’t win them all.
Mew and Mewtwo
They’re Red and Green! Like the first Pokemon games! As I’ve mentioned before, I like to theme the box legendaries and starter Pokemon around the colors of their respective games when I can get away with it. I happen to think that it worked really well here! One of these days I’ll get all the major legendaries finished and we can compare them all. It’ll be fun!

Hello GAMERS. It is now SUMMER. I have a JOB. And until my PI gets back to me about this paper outline, I have nothing better to do than finally compile another blog part. Don’t tell him.

Single-color Pokemon are hard to recolor into anything interesting! Wynaut is yellow now. That’s just how they be. Enjoy???
Hoppip Line: Egge’s Pick
I wanted to challenge myself by doing a recolor of a shiny I already really like! I decided to make Skiploom’s flowers purple and worked the line around that. I rather like how they turned out!
Wooper Line: Egge’s Pick
Like Hoppip, Wooper is a shiny I like a lot! But I’m actually not a huge fan of Quagsire’s shiny–too saturated imo–so this was a bit easier for me. I decided to go with a more blue-purple base color, similar to what shiny Clodsire looks like, and I think it worked pretty well!
Glameow Line: My Labmate’s Pick
“Give me a Pokemon,” I told my labmate while we waited for the centrifuge.
“Uhhhh Vikavolt,” she replied.
“... Give me a Pokemon from gen 5 or before.”
And that’s how we got Glameow! It’s a fancy tuxedo cat now, ready for a night out on the town. Good kitty!
Munna Line: Also my labmate’s pick
Munna already has a fun shiny, but there are a lot of directions you can go in picking a palette for its design, so I had fun selecting this one! I knew that I wanted blue and purple as the main colors, and the gold dream mist as an accent ended up working out nicely with the flower insides.
Magikarp Line: Created by SPECIAL GUEST STAR MY LABMATE
As the title states, my labmate did the Magikarp here, and then I followed her pattern to finish up the Gyarados! The pattern, incidentally, is that she swapped Magikarp’s primary and accent colors–I did the same for Gyarados. They turned out pretty neat!
Sprite Retrospectives
Chikorita Line
I made this line’s recolor trying to match the colors of Pokemon Crystal! Of course this led to yet another blue and purple shiny. I can’t escape them. At least they look nice!
Cyndaquil Line
For whatever reason, I have two Cyndaquil lines saved! The first takes the sick purple flames the shiny line gets in gen 2 and combines it with the coppery orange Cyndaquil has in gen 3 onwards and uses it to good effect! If I’m remembering correctly, I made the second because someone challenged me to make green flames look good and well I couldn’t say no to that! I like both recolors, though I’d love to go back to this line sometime and clean up the purple flame version a little. It’s a bit sloppy for my tastes.
Swinub Line
They’re GOLLLD! If I was doing this today I would’ve leaned more into the mint green that canon shiny Swinub looks like, as these guys are a little too similar to regular Swinub for my liking. They still work out okay, though!

Then how do I get it?!!!!???!! I bred wobuffet with both the lax and the full incense (separately) and without any incense and all three times I got a wobuffet.
Anyways the wynaut line looks great! Also that Magikarp line recolor is amazing, and you definitely made green flames look good.
Have you done the totodile line or mew yet?
