Koffing (and base Weezing) suddenly gained the Hidden Ability Stench in Gen 8 after not having a hidden ability in previous generations. It makes sense that they'd have hidden abilities since Galarian Weezing's hidden ability is Misty Surge but I just never made the realization that Koffing would also have to have a hidden ability

It doesn't have to be the case that a Pokemon's Hidden Ability is different from its standard Ability, though. For example, Ferrothorn has Anticipation for its HA, but Iron Barbs is the only possible Ability Ferroseed can have. In that case, both its standard Ability and its Hidden Ability are programmed to be the same thing, Iron Barbs. They could have done something similar for Koffing and Weezing had they desired.

it's also holding a lum berry so you'd need to status it twice if you were committed to doing that. Status moves are still the way to go, but more things like reflect and growl (or charm if you have access to it)

Also I forget if it was said in here before but the squakabillies on your house in gen 9 are catchable encounters. Probably not useful for most runs since squak's far outclassed by staraptor (Scarlet can still make okay use of it since the final boss has a mon that's quad weak to flying but still) and I don't think you can actually reach them until titan orthworm is defeated, but it could be decent for randomlockes or raid only runs for adding an extra encounter.

Actually, you don't even need Orthworm; all you need to do is move into Pokemon catching-mode with ZL, aim at one of them with your pokeball, and a level two/three green Squawkabilly awaits. It may not have Staraptor's power, but hustle aerial ace hits pretty damn hard, especially if they have a flying Tera type, and even if it's not hustle, it gets intimidate, if you want Staraptor-lite.

yea as I said earlier I used Paldean Farfetch'd in my own run (though not this encounter lol) but nice to know that you can Z-target them, considering I think this actually adds an encounter before you get to Mezagoza (though not that it'd help against Nemona lol) Speaking of randomlockes, there's also a few encounters that are very underleveled compared to everything around them, such as the Wigglets in north area 1's beaches and the rolling Donphans in south area 6, both of which are level 20-22.

Also a minor one but for anyone who has me on their GO friend list might know this now but apparently GO's barriers for vivillon are more in-depth than the main series, my friend lives a bit north of Tampa, Florida and his gifts give out modern forms, but when I was down in Sarasota for a fair bit (about an hour south of Tampa, give or take) gave me the rarer archipelago form instead. I wonder where the barrier is but it was interesting to be able to give those out for a while since that's normally a pretty rare form. I think gen 6/7 have Florida as a whole give out the modern form if I'm not mistaken?

I am now imagining a Farfetch'd with a pompadour. I can't decide whether it's based or cursed.

I'm thinking it's more like a Chatot with a pompadour, since Squawkabilly are basically parrots like Chatot is. But yeah, I love Squawkabilly's design - all four colors - and the fact that it's based off of Elvis' look and music genre makes it that much better.

Today I figured out by experience that you can indeed use the Move Reminder to teach Smeargle Sketch again after Sketching a move. I would have been quite angry if it didn't work that way, but I wasn't positive since you don't technically forget Sketch the way you do for other moves. Burning a Heart Scale is a much better deal in most games than grinding a Smeargle for ten levels every time you want a new move.

The main issue with that tho is in that outside of randomizers and fangames you'd generally run into the move tutor far after you'd be using smeragle rofl. (Around level 38-40 in HG/SS, 42-43 in X/Y, 58-62 in S/M) Can still be a nice thing to remember in runs where those two line up though. (mostly in hoenn since the re-leaner's pretty early in that region)

As for my own thank you pokemon infinite fusions for reminding me that synchronoise even existed as a move. Got one of my favorite fusions OHKOed by it. (electric/poison nukked by an electric/psychic) I mostly just remember the move because umbreon can use it but I 100% forgot what learned it naturally lol

Hammer arm is boosted by Iron fist.

I really, really wish I knew that earlier. At least my Pangoro was still good to use without it.

In LGPE, the starter’s gender is determined through not when you obtain them, but when you begin the entire game. The opening cutscene displays the respective mon, with whichever gender difference.

Interesting to note because I remember someone stating “Da lpge startah can onleh be female!!!1!one!!!” when I clearly remember using a male starter when I played the game. And looking it up, I still see people unsure about it.

And on an unrelated part, it could be that it’s only for Infinite fusion, but self inflicted confusion can break a disguise.

I already mentioned this in Frustrating Things in Nuzlockes, but since Infinite Fusion got brought up here, I feel morally obligated to warn y'all that a heckin' lot of Miltank fusions are cursed. For reasons that should be obvious when you consider Miltank's most prominent -- and infamous -- feature.

Self inflicted confusion attacks breaking a disguise sounds pretty cool though.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure both my Let's Go, Pikachu starters were male.

Also, can confirm (because Bulbapedia did) that Mimikyu hurting itself in confusion will break Disguise.

Another one that probably goes more in frustrating and was thanks to infinite fusions reminding me but I forgot how much liberal poison spam there was in gen 1. not only were the rockets almost all poison users barring giovanni and the occasional rattata/drowzee member, but I think it took until gen 7 or 8 for the gens past 1 to catch up to how many poison types it introduced. Probably a good thing later leaders started using more dark types starting from R/S/E onwards and then became more generally diverse from X/Y onwards. (though team flare still has the issue of being weak to ground and fairy types)

The TM Machines in SV have an option to narrow down the list to TMs of a specific type, and it's not even hidden-you only have to push L or R on the "make a TM" screen. Somehow I completely missed that on my first playthrough...
