Shelly's always been a favorite of mine, let's give her team a much needed boost:

Mightyena, level 28, Male, Intimidate, holding Black Glasses.
Spr_3e_262.png

Bite, Sand Attack, Dig, Swagger

Gloom, level 28, Female, Chlorophyll, holding Black Sludge.
Spr_3e_044.png

Stun Spore, Sludge Bomb, Frustration, Giga Drain

Starmie, level 28, Natural Cure, Holding Mystic Water
Spr_3e_121.png

Water Pulse, Psychic, Recover, Light Screen

Sharpedo, level 30, Female, Rough Skin, holding Sitrus Berry.
Spr_3e_319.png

Crunch, Strength, Focus Energy, Scary Face

Ooh this sounds fun! Aiming for slight tune-ups in line with what their existing rosters can do with Gen 8's toolkits.

Despite this being a tune-up, I do like Brock's execution as an introduction to type matchups, so I'm not going to go overly rough on what he gets. I'm also going to keep to roughly default FRLG level ranges for this.

Geodude- Lv 12
- Sandstorm
- Tackle
- Rock Tomb*
- Defense Curl

Rhyhorn- Lv 12
- Tackle
- Tail Whip
- Smack Down
- Bulldoze

Onix- Lv 14
- Dragonbreath
- Rock Polish
- Rock Tomb*
- Tackle

Brock continues to hand out the Rock Tomb TM, and Geodude is programmed to use Sandstorm turn one. I didn't even have to put Sandstorm or Dragonbreath on the movesets, because Geodude and Onix just get those at those levels as of Gen 8. If I wanted to be slightly crueller to the Charmander nation, I'd up the level curve so Onix is 16 and gets access to Curse, but I decided not to do that. As for the Rhyhorn? Rhyhorn is the only other non-fossil Rock line in the Kanto Dex.

Staryu- Lv 18
- Water Pulse*
- Harden
- Confuse Ray
- Minimize

Goldeen - Lv 20
- Agility
- Peck
- Water Pulse
- Horn Attack

Starmie - Lv 21
- Water Pulse*
- Confusion**
- Cosmic Power
- Rapid Spin

So, full disclosure, Starmie can't actually learn Confusion in vanilla gen 8. What it can learn and have at Misty's level, though, is Psybeam. But I think that's a little bit rougher than I want at this point (even though Cosmic Power is entirely legal at that level thanks to how the swsh move relearner works with Stone folks), so I made the executive decision to nerf my buffs. Ultimately, as you can probably imagine, the goal of this is to make it so that Ivysaur or the Route 24/25 grass type isn't an instant win in here. Misty still hands out the Water Pulse TM.

Voltorb- Lv 22
- Electro Ball
- Swift
- Screech
- Charge

Pikachu- Lv 21
- Spark
- Double Team
- Shock Wave*
- Quick Attack

Raichu- Lv 26
- Thunder Punch
- Slam
- Agility
- Shock Wave*

Surge's TM move is Shock Wave, and Raichu now apparently just learns Thunder Punch when you evolve your Pikachu. With the exception of Shock Wave and Raichu's Slam, all of these are stuff that the Pokemon natively have at those levels, and Slam is something Raichu can have at that level because SwSh move relearner is an absolute trip. I did also buff the teams levels slightly (but not as high as his Yellow Raichu) because I don't particularly like how close his levels are to Misty's when there's an SS Anne between the two- assuming linear progression. If I come back to do other Kanto bosses, I'll probably also depart from vanilla levels on them as well now.

fuggit, i'm doing more of these under the same caveat (their regional dexes with gen 8 movepools, unless they didn't get into any gen 8 games in which case i'll go with their gen 7 sets)

Anyway what about ya boi berdly Falkner? Couldn't he use a tune up or rework in some capacity?

Hoothoot - Lv 9
- Roost*
- Echoed Voice
- Confusion
- Growl

Hoppip - Lv 11 @Big Root
- Absorb
- Fairy Wind
- Synthesis
- Tackle

Murkrow - Lv 13
- Roost*
- Haze
- Gust
- Peck

Roost is his TM. Murkrow might look a little rough for gym 1, but compare it to Roark's Cranidos and the hurt that can put down for the unprepared, not so much. Falkner's vanilla levels are low enough that Murkrow just misses out on Wing Attack in Gen 8, so while it has a respectable attack stat for early in the game it's not going to be throwing out the strongest moves.

Big Root Hoppip is only here to be a stumbling block for Just Use Geo, Dude.

But speaking of early Gym Leaders packing a bit of a ludicrous evolution, who wants a crack at retooling Gardenia?

Cherubi - Lv 20
- Grass Knot*
- Growth
- Dazzling Gleam
- Safeguard

Roselia - Lv 23 @Big Root
- Grass Knot*
- Toxic Spikes
- Mega Drain
- Poison Sting

Wormadam-P - Lv 24 @Miracle Seed
- Grass Knot*
- Confusion
- Protect
- Quiver Dance

Slight level buff for Gardenia- I actually like the Cherubi kit she has in BDSP, but I'm happy to downgrade her Roserade to a Roselia and make an ace that you will actually be able to match at this point in the game- Wormadam does, after all, have 4x weaknesses to Fire and Flying, and shutting it down before it can build those Quiver Dances (which it just... gets in BDSP, on evolution from Burmy) shouldn't overly tax your Staravia that you probably have.

Anyway for the sake of adding a new idea, I'm gonna throw out the idea of a Wulfric Rework, rework the 8th Gym leader of Kalos to make his ice type team a threat, even with the legendary.

Snow Warning Abomasnow - Lv 57 @Icy Rock
- Blizzard
- Aurora Veil
- Avalanche
- Wood Hammer

Skill Link Cloyster - Lv 56 @White Herb
- Icicle Spear
- Toxic Spikes
- Rock Blast
- Shell Smash

Cryogonal - Lv 57 @Power Herb
- Acid Armor
- Solar Beam
- Flash Cannon
- Ice Beam

Thick Fat Mamoswine - Lv 58 @Lagging Tail
- Earthquake
- Avalanche
- Hail
- Rest

Ice Body Avalugg- Lv 59 @Focus Sash
- Body Press
- Bulldoze
- Heavy Slam
- Mirror Coat

I might have said once or twice before that i think a final gym leader only having three pokemon is an absolute joke. Now, I'm not entirely sure how much better this is- I'm just spitballing with fun Pokemon I like- but I do think the additions of Cloyster and Mamoswine give Wulfric a bit of counterplay to the usual weaknesses of Ice, and the Icy Rock Abomasnow gives him a lil bit more time with the first Hail. Cryogonal and Avalugg are mostly just here because he had them in Kalos and I thought they deserved better loadouts than their vanilla XY sets. Heavy Slam Avalugg sounds really funny given Xerneas' existence

incidentally i am gutted that glalie isn't in kalos dex because i would 100% have given wulfric a mega glalie if it was

mirror coat focus sash is just there because funny, and as soon as i saw that that's an egg move it gets i knew i had to do it for funny

If anyone else is interested, I'd like to see some takes on an Elite Four member- come on down, Kanto Bruno! Get yourself a promotion from Slightly Improved Hiker!

Challenge accepted (kinda).

Two candidates for Bruno's strongest official team - in Fire Red/Leaf Green his ace, Machamp, clocks in at Lv. 68, but imo his best composition comes from HG/SS.

I'm going to combine them, except better.

Gen 8 move pools, with three pokemon from the original HG/SS team and three upgrades. FR/LG level cap. Three Full Restores. Ultra Beasts are dishonourable.

KOMMO-O Lv. 68
Ability: Soundproof
Held Item: Leftovers
Moves:
  • Stealth Rock
  • Dragon Tail
  • Clangorous Soul
  • Body Press
You know you're doing business with the elite when you're hit with the 600 base stat behemoth right out of the gate. Kommo-o is here to assert control over the arena by setting up hazards and knocking anymon foolish enough to try and out-Dragon Dance them right back into their ball.

MIENSHAO Lv. 68
Ability: Regenerator
Held Item: Bright Powder
Moves:
  • Fake Out
  • U-Turn
  • Swords Dance
  • Baton Pass
Annoying bastard from Unova. Won't stay in one place, chips away at your precious HP bar, throws sand in your eyes and hides at every opportunity. Yet, if left untouched, this rapscallion can inspire its bigger friends to deal out the pain.

HITMONTOP Lv. 68
Ability: Technician
Held Item: Assault Vest
Moves:
  • Triple Kick
  • Triple Axel
  • Mach Punch
  • Rapid Spin
Undisputed king of the Hitmons, as evidenced by it sitting a level above the rest in HG/SS. Still packing the signature capoeira kicks, but this bad mon's been training in the dojos of the Isle of Armor. Don't get caught out by the quickness, and don't even think about trying your own hazards. This is Bruno's house. Wipe your feet.

LUCARIO Lv. 68
Ability: Inner Focus
Held Item: Life Orb
Moves:
  • Aura Sphere
  • Flash Cannon
  • Dragon Pulse
  • Extreme Speed
Representing for all the boys at home on Iron Island, the #1 special attacker in the type. Strong coverage, and a nasty surprise for any smart-arse Psychics.

BLAZIKEN Lv. 68
Ability: Speed Boost
Held Item: Life Orb
Moves:
  • Blaze Kick
  • Close Combat
  • Protect
  • Fire Blast
Fighting out of Littleroot Town, the trendsetter for a decade of fire starters acts as Lucario's physical counterpart. Makes use of all its natural talents to threaten both sides of the physical/special argument.

Do you want to be the one to tell Bruno he can't use two Life Orbs? I'm not doing it :v:

MACHAMP Lv. 68
Ability: No Guard
Held Item: Choice Band
Moves:
  • Cross Chop
  • Earthquake
  • Rock Slide
  • Brick Break
The OG. The king. I've changed nothing except the held item.

I'd like to see a full Elite Four to thus standard, and I'm gonna nominate  Olivia from Alola as the next candidate for a power-up. No self-respecting Elite Four member should be packing five pokemon on match day.

So I was having a discussion with some people yesterday about "meta" Pokemon and creating a hack without them. Originally, I wanted to try and create an Unfair Bruno team with just Fighting-types under 500 BST, but without access to Mega Evolution or legendaries that was going to probably be impossible, so...

Breloom, Lv57, Technician @Focus Sash
  • Spore
  • Swords Dance
  • Mach Punch
  • Bullet Seed
Gurdurr, Lv57, Sheer Force @Eviolite
  • Bulk Up
  • Drain Punch
  • Poison Jab
  • Rock Slide
Falinks, Lv58, Battle Armor @Black Belt
  • First Impression
  • No Retreat
  • Reversal
  • Close Combat
Hitmontop, Lv59 Technician @Assault Vest
  • Fake Out
  • Triple Axel
  • Mach Punch
  • Close Combat
Pangoro, Lv60 Iron Fist @Life Orb
  • Drain Punch
  • Bullet Punch
  • Darkest Lariat
  • Ice Punch

Might fill the Olivia request and toss out a new request later, idk

So I say Hard, because I've got no point of comparison but USUM is the standard for Hard, so I guess this is USUM+? I'll be honest, I'm not the best judge of difficulty, I'm just looking through movesets and seeing if anything strikes me as funny.

Swift Swim Armaldo- Lv 56
- Swords Dance
- Crush Claw
- X Scissor
- Rock Slide

Swift Swim is just here because I think it'd be a funny little surprise on her opener, honestly. If you're setting a weather up against a rock team, you're probably going Rain team, right? Swords Dance is her opening move, Rock Slide is replacing Rock Blast for more consistent damage, but I'm fine with X Scissor and Crush Claw. Cross Poison is one I debated as well, but ultimately decided against.

Archeops- Lv 56 @Sitrus Berry
- Acrobatics
- U-Turn
- Head Smash
- Steel Wing

Joining Olivia's five mons is Archeops! Looking at the rocks available in Alola, it was this or Aerodactyl for me, Fighting is Rock's main weakness that Olivia doesn't have something for. The Sitrus will hopefully offset Defeatist depending on how hard it gets hit- or, if Head Smash does the funny thing- and there's always U-Turn if it wants to get out and make way for...

Sand Stream Gigalith- Lv 56 @Smooth Rock
- Iron Head
- Bulldoze
- Stone Edge
- Explosion

Call him Darude, because he's bringing a Sandstorm. It'll be really funny if people switch their Electric type in to hit Archeops but it U-Turns into this boy that turn instead. (:

USUM set plus Explosion for when survivability is getting a lil' dicey out there, to try and bag a quick kill and keep another Sandstorm turn, ready for...

Sand Force Probopass- Lv 56 @Assault Vest
- Power Gem
- Earth Power
- Dazzling Gleam
- Flash Cannon

... the epic follow-up to Gigalith. The three Sand Force boosted types, plus Dazzling Gleam for any crafty Fighting types that get funny ideas about being involved.

Suction Cups Cradily- Lv 56 @Power Herb
- Stealth Rock
- Energy Ball
- Recover
- Meteor Beam

Cradily is here for a long time, not a good time. Stealth Rocks go up, Meteor Beam triggers the Power Herb, and then it's a healthy mixture of Recover and Energy Ball.

No Guard Lycanroc- Lv 57 @Rockium Z
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Counter
- Psychic Fangs

Swapped Rock Climb for Psychic Fangs as a crafty bit of coverage against Fighting types. Other than that, No Guard Stone Miss looks fine to me.

I'm afraid I'm inexperienced with bosses past Gen 5 - not that I couldn't make teams for them anyway but it wouldn't sit right with me. I'll just do a slightly less brutal Bruno. My main goal is to create a decent team that fits his themes/battle style. This is for your first E4 fight with him in HGSS.

blaziken.png

Blaziken @ Focus Sash
Ability: Blaze
Level: 51
- Overheat
- Focus Blast
- Agility
- Baton Pass

Starting off with a fun set idea! Maybe a bit gimmicky for Bruno's taste but I figured he could use one special attacker and the cool thing is that since the rest of his team is physical BPing the Overheat drop won't hurt anyone. This thing's more or less around to dish out big special damage and potentially pass speed to some scary teammates.

medicham.png

Medicham @ Choice Band
Ability: Pure Power
Level: 52
- High Jump Kick
- Focus Punch
- Zen Headbutt
- Thunder Punch

Relatively straightforward. Medicham's here for the all-out offense Bruno is known for. Focus Punch is kind of a meme but it's technically Medicham's strongest move. Power comes at a cost! If it can pull it off (and the opponent doesn't switch to a Ghost) it's doing massive damage.

breloom.png

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Level: 52
- Spore
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Seed Bomb

A slightly different Breloom approach. It doesn't get Technician in Gen 4 but Poison Heal is just as good! This set is extremely annoying while still hitting hard. Definitely the more reliable Focus Punch user of the two while punishing Water types that the rest of his team struggles with.

heracross.png

Heracross @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Swarm
Level: 53
- Megahorn
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake

Johto rep! Heracross is more or less just a synergy to provide reliable speed control and help Bruno deal with those pesky Psychic types. Sadly no Moxie yet but a Swarm-boosted Megahorn is gonna hurt.

steelix.png

Steelix @ Leftovers
Ability: Rock Head
Level: 53
- Curse
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Double-Edge

One of the coolest things about Bruno is that he's one of the first trainers to deviate from the monotype mold. To be fair you could say literally every Kanto E4 Member does so but Bruno did it by choice, not merely from a lack of selection. Onix ain't it, though. We're upgrading to Steelix. It provides a solid answer to the Flying and Psychic types that Bruno would otherwise struggle with.

machamp.png

Machamp @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
Level: 55
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Facade

Finally, Bruno's ace is still Machamp but with a classic Guts set. I was tempted to go No Guard but the raw of power of Guts can't be denied. It's also far and away his best Agility recipient. With that speed boost this thing becomes a devastating sweeper.

my set for the always single alolan Casca (sorry not sorry, I'm watching Berserk right now)

what am I getting myself into? brutal difficulty with one of the traditional "weak" types... I hope it turns out well:

(formatting in related moves, items, abilities)

Lycanroc aka Moody Doge (Dusk/ Focus Sash or Red Card/ EVs in Attack/Speed) - she doesn't fight anymore with her pet werewolf
Stealth Rock (mandatory)
Fire Fang
Thunder Fang
Sucker Punch (especially before the finishing hit)

Cradily aka Eternal Troll (Storm Drain/Leftovers/ EVs in defenses) - good luck bringing down this guy, great for bluff switching to opponent's water types
Leech Seed
Giga Drain
Infestation (slow and painful)
Mirror Coat / Brine
(borderline Unfair moveset!)

Probopass aka Super Mario Statue (Sand Force/ Air Balloon/ EVs in defenses & HP)
Magnet Rise
Flash Cannon
Power Gem
Earth Power

Minior aka Jirachi's Wish (Weakness Policy/ EVs in defenses & speed)
Stealth Rock (just in case)
U-Turn
Acrobatics
Rock Slide

Stoutland aka Doge (Sand Rush/ Fairium Z/ EVs in Attack, Sp Defense & HP) - a viable Sandstorm team needs some diversity,
Retaliate
Z-Baby Doll Eyes (+1 defense)
Roar (stealth rock abuse) / Snarl (water/grass sp. atk coverage)
Thunder / Ice fang

Gigalith aka Darude (Sand Stream/ Assault Vest/ EVs in Attack & HP)
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Iron Head
Throat Chop

Time for another thread revival!

I really like restricting myself to just the Hisui Pokedex for some of these trainers and that trend continues with Bruno. idk if this is kanto or johto bruno they'd probably use just about the same team regardless of the elite four he's apart of
Sneasler Lv 60
- Dire Claw
- Close Combat
- Night Slash
- Swords Dance

Steelix Lv 60
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Stone Edge
- Explosion

Kleavor Lv 60
- Stone Axe
- X-Scissor
- Close Combat
- U Turn

look i didn't give brock a kleavor and i am definitely not upgrading bugsy's scyther into a scizor or kleavor when else would somebody in kanto/johto use this mon

Lucario Lv 60
- Aura Sphere
- Flash Cannon
- Shadow Ball
- Nasty Plot

Hisuian Decidueye Lv 60
- Triple Arrows
- Leaf Blade
- Brave Bird
- Bulk Up

Machamp Lv 62
- Dynamic Punch
- Drain Punch
- Bullet Punch
- Stone Edge

Bruno's probably one of the few trainers in this weird Kanto/Johto with Hisui's Pokedex that actually keeps their ace

I have yet to submit a trainer to request a workshop for... How about Cyrus?

How about Cyrus?

Cyrus [Normal, Regional, Plat]

Okay, so Cyrus wants to completely destroy the universe and is characterised as being "nihilistic" and "was known to be a good, albeit asocial, student, and so preferred the company of machines over humans and Pokémon" [Bulbapedia]. There's some traits to work with, but his team is really boring and just a generic "evil" team. So let's change that… I've gone for a mixture of some Dark Pokémon that he uses in the games and others that fits his vibes, plus a couple of machine-y pokemon since his bio mentions that, and then finally a slightly oddball pick that fits with his teams aesthetic (plus I just think is fun).

so I was thinking about editing canon bosses, as I am wont to do, and remembered that I made this thread!

for this set of teams, I wanna do something WACKY (which will sadly mean not filling Entity's Erika/Koga request)

every post-Kanto trainer on the request list has now been sent back in time to 1998, and only has access to pokemon and moves available in Red and Blue!

how will this work? idk!

(also I got bored after Wulfric lol)
