I’m so glad I have a buffer for this run. My writing schedule is a mess and a half and y’all don’t deserve to be subjected to that. That being said, Part 35 will be the final main story portion of the run. Everything else will be post game!
Yeah, fair enough.
See English didn't exist when the ship crashed, this makes perfect sense obviously
Just gotta fail upwards enough and we'll manage true AI
good thing the humans haven't! yet. the Dinaurians may have made a mistake here
Yesss they're so good!
He is!!
please.
Guhnash is gonna eat everything. om nom nom.
I bet if we drenched the planet in mint soap Guhnash would spit it out.
I'm with you. It's what he deserves.
I am so sorry for your sacrifice; nobody deserves to see an accent mangled in such a way.
It is but sadly there is no going back. There's a giant tadpole now.
Right?? You think it's just a bit of commentary on how things can actually fossilize more quickly than you might expect but then it's actually plot relevant! I love it so much.
Shoot, we’ve been found! The Dinaurians must’ve been able to find the island on their radars once Richmond turned off the cloaking…
I mean technically she just decided that mass genocide wasn’t very cool, maybe you should consider that too??? Please?
Woah, dude, that’s uncalled for! She’s trying to do the right thing, unlike SOME people in the room!
This was always how the matter would be settled, unfortunately…
Raptin is a tough nut to crack; his support effects are no joke, and I want to keep him from getting into the SZ if I can. Luckily, he’s air-type, and we have the perfect counter to that nonsense.
Go get ‘em, Ducky!
Hnnn I don’t like any of this. Raptin immediately gunning for the SZ, Sasha getting targeted over Ducky… maybe I should’ve brought Star and tried to use S-Combo to force switches.
Thankfully, the Master Rank FP Boost gives us some room to work with, and Sasha will be able to boost her defense while still allowing Ducky to attack.
Raptin’s out next turn. I’m going to try and use Ducky’s Confusion skill to force Dinomaton to switch.
YES okay phew that worked! Now to take out Raptin!
Okay wow that was uncalled for.
Ducky, KILLLLLLL!
Eh, close enough. Should be able to KO next turn! I, uh, hope.
… wait, when did Sasha’s LP get so low.
I was right! Now we just have to hope the Dinomatons are easy to clean up…
I was trying to entice them to attack Garret here; sadly, it failed. I’m worried about Sasha… oh no.
Despite their low defense, these Dinomatons are fairly bulky. I don’t like it. At least they seem to be targeting Garret now..?
Ducky is back; let’s attempt confusion and hope the AI avoids Sasha… I don’t think she can survive another hit…
The crit… wasn’t able to KO…
I’m sorry, Sasha :( you did NOT deserve to go out like that…
Oh, so NOW you miss.
It’s hardly got any health left… that’s for the best, really. Should be able to end it next turn.
There. We’re done.
At least some good came out of the fight. Congrats, Star.
And Benji beat you. Give it up, you’ve already taken enough from us.
Thanks, Duna. Maybe he’ll actually listen to you.
…
Or… maybe not.
You’re doing the right thing, Duna. I’m sorry Raptin couldn’t see that.
Right, there’s a mystery to solve. Let’s see what we can do.
Huh, I guess humans are differently-shaped than Dinaurians… this stone block doesn’t have nearly as much detail as those Dinaurian ones did, either.
Wait, is he really? I guess he IS Master Rank, so it would make sense… alright, let’s get cleaning!
Yup, there’s a person in there, all right. And hmm… that hair sure looks familiar!
Start the revival sequence…
It’s him! He’s back!! He might not have been able to make a time machine in 250 screens, but he was able to put himself into stone sleep!
This is a really clever plot resolution and I like it a lot :)
First thing he does is wake up and nerd out about his escape plan. What a scientist.
Duna, the man just slept for 150 million years! He doesn’t need your sass.
Dr. Diggins, we’ve kinda sorta read all of them already. Sorry bro.
Right, he already has a hiding place picked out. Can do!
But… before that… we have some decisions to make. Namely, we need a replacement team member for Sasha.
I think… I think Scale is the best choice. His support effect is similar, and he’ll be a bulky addition for the next few fights. Type matchups don’t matter anymore--all of our opponents are neutral--so that doesn’t need to be brought into consideration. He needs training, though. And fossils.
Hmm, weird, it seems like we’ve seen these screens before… must be deja vu.
Scale is still needing levels. I think I’m actually going to attempt grinding in this game for once. It can be a bit of a pain, which is why I rarely do it.
To do it, you have to go to a Dig Site and find an NPC. These people rotate through a few areas and have a random team. Since Benji is Master Rank, they all give 10 BP per fight. Annoyingly, there are only 2 or 3 in each Dig Site, so you have to keep leaving and returning to fight them. In addition, they’re fairly tough! The fighters in Greenhorn Plains have Vivosaurs that can hit Rank 8. Benji will be careful, though.
Okay, Rank 8 is what I wanted, I can just stop… Ducky is seriously one point away. I can’t let that stand.
Bam!! Ducky has reached their final rank! Star has too, for that matter! I’m so proud of them!!
Umbrella also gained a level, and Benji played some hide-and-seek to get his mind off things. Then Scale hit Rank 9, and I decided that’s good enough for now.
It’s time to progress! But we won’t be doing that until next time. See you then.
actually we don't know the cause for most extinction events. hell, even the cretaceous-paleogene one is just a well thought guess, and even the most recent pre-holocene one is mostly guesswork.
i think one of the only ones that's really pinned down is, like, the Middle Miocene, because it happened to coincide with a lot of tectonic movement that fucked up a bunch of ocean currents and caused temperatures to go haywire everywhere as a result. hell, the end-jurassic "extinction" technically wasn't even really an extinction event as far as evidence suggests, even though we thought it was one for years.
ironically the only one we really do know a lot about is the late devonian one, because it's useful for oil companies :v though even there we're not certain if the oceans suddenly losing their oxygenation was a cause of or symptom of the extinction, or to what degree it's both.
(we also know what the holocene extinction is because, well, as they say in the business, "you best start believing in mass extinction events, you're in one."
ah yes thank you for translating stuff for us on this computer when we previously didn't need things translated some of the time on your ship, that's very nice and not raising questions :v
Yeah, fair enough.
See English didn't exist when the ship crashed, this makes perfect sense obviously
I mean that's probably how we're going to end up with some kind of artificial life form eventually, so... relatable?
Well I mean Mother Brain was a giant supercomputer developed to control an entire solar system... And then she got latched onto by Dark Force... Look it's Phantasy Star stuff, the lore is fascinating but it'd take me about six pages worth of posts to explain it all. Just take it as read, we should never give out lives over to the computers!
The designs in this game are generally badass :D
SHAPED LIKE FRIEND.
God, forget the fossil resurrections, give us THAT tech!
Oh shit, it's a Galactus!
*PFFT* I don't know why this line is so gosh-dark funny but it's hilarious!
If it's Bull-for-brains I vote we let Duna eat him.
Just gotta fail upwards enough and we'll manage true AI

I'm with you. It's what he deserves.
Oof. As a French, that French accent was something to read xD
... Can we go back to my meteor-crashing theory? It's nicer and less dangerous than this whole world-eating monster thing ;w;
And okay, this game is way more hilarious than I thought. That tie in with the sandal fossil is pure genius.
I am so sorry for your sacrifice; nobody deserves to see an accent mangled in such a way.
