Welcome to Finding Your Roots! This comic is an Omega Ruby earthlocke that is told in the style of a Pokemon Mystery Dungeons story. Meaning, this is a human-less nuzlocke! Please do enjoy!

Summary: Cedar the mudkip has always been an outcast, but she never let it get her down. Instead of swimming with her peers, she loves to play in the dirt and mud. She wants to be more connected with her ground-type roots, but her tribe only sees themselves as water-types, and everyone she knows sees earth pokemon as silly and useless. Cedar's hopes of meeting like-minded pokemon seem slim, until the day a mysterious desert egg pops up in her village. Upon setting out to bring the egg home, Cedar will embark on a life-changing journey where she'll meet new friends, face villains and hardship, and find roots she never knew she had.

Rules:

• Only the first pokemon encountered on each route can be caught.
• If a pokemon faints, it is dead.
• Earthlocke: Only rock, ground, and steel-types can be caught and used on the team. Pokemon that will eventually evolve into an earth type can also be caught and used. Pokemon that are caught as an earth-type but will lose their earth typing upon evolution can never evolve. (Ex. nincada -> ninjask)
• Dupes clause: There are three chances per route to catch an earth pokemon that has not already been caught.
• Dud clause: If an earth pokemon is available to catch on a route, there are unlimited chances to encounter it.
• Shiny clause: Any shiny can be caught at any time, but can only be used if it is an earth type and is the first encounter on the route.
• A random egg will be received from another trainer to act as a second starter.

Update Schedule: This thread updates at the end of each month. Updates on Tuesdays and Saturdays on other mirrors.

I had never read your rules until today, I didn't realize the egg was actually an egg you traded over to the game! That's such a fun addition, but how does that work with your earthlocke rules? can you not use it if its not the right type?

Haha, thank you! Yeah, the adventure log updates for every chapter. And since Briar is taking over for this chapter, she gets to be on the card too! That'll happen for every intermission.

It was actually pretty easy! It was pkmnMasterWheeler who bred the egg and traded it to me. She knew my rules, so she knew to pick an earth type! But I didnt know what species it would be, so it was still a surprise for me. :3

Hahahaha, I'm glad you both like Nimbus's "Wow! No." XD That whole exchange between Briar and Nimbus is def one of my favorite moments in the comic so far. Briar would be lucky to find a friend half as cool as Nimbus!

Mouse! These dogs! I'm sorry but I have adopted them, they are mine now and there's nothing you can do about it. Look at the one with the little spots I love them~

Also not gonna lie, TOTALLY didn't notice that the first Taillow Briar assaults and the one that's watching her make a mess were the same one til now

Maybe before learning about battles Briar can learn about manners instead lmao. Nimbus continues to be just, The Best I gotta say. Also while pkmnMasterWheeler gets the poocheyana, I'm claiming the zigzagoon look at their masks and big floofy tails I love them so so so much~

For real tho, it's cool to see Briar's antagonistic nature isn't just aimed at Cedar, but it's fundamentally how she interacts with the world, and she's not at the point where she even seems to notice it's a problem. Interested to see how she comes to learn it's a problem tho, since Nimbus is hinting that Briar is about to make a mistake.

Oh, I'm glad you noticed that! Yup, Cedar is not the only victim of Briar's raging fire of a personality. It's hard to unlearn one's bratty nature when it's always rewarded in Littleroot, huh?

Awww thank you Rubombee, I'm glad you like it! :'D Honestly I think using pmd worlds for main games is pretty neat too! It really confuses me why no one else has a nuzlocke run like this? It seems like such a simple concept!

And I to greet my friends by saying "Hey mutts!", And since that is a perfectly normal and polite greeting, I see no way this conversation could possibly go south for Briar U:

This is such a cute comic, you draw everyone really adorable (especially the eyes) and i really like the theme of found family whenever they talk about forming teams. Cedar is a very positive bean. Also this might be a very random thing to point out but i loved the little litten in one of the chapter 2 pages, i want to adopt them.

I also enjoy the gradual improvement when it comes to paneling, it becomes very dynamic and has nice variety~ especially in the battle scenes. Also i loved the part where Cedar realized walking on two legs is a thing now haha. Keep it up this is a very cute and positive read so far~ Also, the narration adds a really fun touch in between the chapters!

This little exchange between them about the team name is such a nice touch. It really makes it feel like these are 3 characters that exist in the world separate from the main cast. You have a really great knack at using small interaction like this to breathe life into your characters, and by extension, make the world of FYR feel really lived in~

Though tbh, I'm not sure how much longer Briar will be living in FYR's world at this rate X'3
