hello, i like idols.
i don't have a line to add rn, but i'm definitely thinking gym 2 should be fighting on mountain biome

team probably consists of something like
lv19 riolu (work up, endure, metal claw, brick break)
lv20 croagunk (venoshock, brick break, taunt, revenge)
lv21 hawlucha (brick break, feather dance, aerial ace, detect)

and as you can see by the movepool, this gym leader gives you the tm for brick break upon defeat

also yeah maybe we should start voting on more weigo forms and plot stuff

Creating an official-looking walkthrough sounds like a great idea! We could work out what the region is shaped/looks like (anyone here any good at making maps?) and figure out how the Pokemon are distributed throughout the game.

I'm also going to open the floor to more Weigo forms! This time, I want to see midgame Pokemon, that you might encounter in the gym 3-6 range. So far for this section of the game we have a harsh desert, volcanic islands and a sprawling city. Keep that in mind!

EDIT: As a bonus for all of you, I messed around in a Picrew for a bit and came up with a design for our lovely evil team boss, Alina Cole!
download20220106110208.png

I was debating whether I wanted her to have pale skin and dark hair or vice versa, decided to go with the latter since we have far too few people of colour in the Pokemon world. The pink and white suit fits with the overall aesthetic of Team Luster, I think.

Despite being a Grass-type, Casual is a flaming lesbian. Fire and Grass don't usually mix, but somehow it works out here.
Hi there, first time poster in this thread! I don't have any ideas for regionals and such, but I did want to note this after it came up in a Discord chat I'm in:

i don't have a line to add rn, but i'm definitely thinking gym 2 should be fighting on mountain biome

lv19 riolu (work up, endure, metal claw, brick break)

and as you can see by the movepool, this gym leader gives you the tm for brick break upon defeat

Brick Break on Hawlucha feels a little too strong for Gym 2... but perhaps Rock Smash could be suitable here. Still a Fighting move, learnable by TM in BDSP, all three mons here could learn it in older gens, and it's much more manageable on a mon as strong as Hawlucha is.

concept: pure poison dedenne
see, living in the big city all this time and helping out only to be ruthlessly punished, it's changed it's electricty sacs to poison ones, and now is considerably meaner.
real reason: mice in city. dedenne underloved in general.
so yeah

Okay, this will not be the best drawing in the world, but right now I am trying to get my ideas out of my head and onto paper. To be clear, this is not a complete map. A big thing I should note is that I went with the idea of Weigo being one big island rather than a large chain (more Kanto than Hoenn) because that is how I pictured it. If people want differently, that is perfectly fine with me. I also plan on doing my map on much nicer paper later, but this is about getting the ideas out and seeing what is good and what is not, because I really want to know what's where before I break out the sketchbook (it's hard to erase in.)

Map sketch here:

So, the idea of one big island stuck with me. I'll mark down the numbered things on the map and explain my thought process.
1 - the modern city. Someone said that this should be in the middle of a lake, someone else said that it should be in the center of the island, and the synthesis of that was what formed my idea of the Weigo Region's shape. Water likes to go down, so if there's a lake in the middle of an island, there needs to be something preventing the whole place from getting flooded, which is why I have the mountain barrier around the edge of the island. The river comes from two places, one from a large part of the mountain barrier (a real way that rivers form) and the other, larger branch of the river comes from a small gap the mountains where I crammed a lot of things in.
2 - the ancient city. This I took from elsewhere in the thread, that the modern city is built around the ancient city.
3 - your hometown. In all the Pokemon games, the trainer never starts in a city that has anything. It's always a small place, off the beaten path. I put here because towns form at river junctions (St. Louis) and was able to explain why there are no other towns nearby by stretching the mountains.
4 - This actually combined one of my own ideas with an idea from the thread. I wanted a huge mountain somewhere along the border of the island, so that the protagonist could have a really cool moment of looking out at the see, and in this case, seeing an archipelago beyond Weigo's mountain border, and @KitkatKK2 suggested that the water type gym leader be on a volcano island. So, volcano island is connected to the main island with a small mountain pass leading to a volcanic beach that you surf across (or maybe walk across, if that's too early for surfing) to get to the volcano island. As for how 8 would be inaccessible from 4, maybe Team Luster does something here (try to blow up the volcano to make more light?)
5 - This is really poorly written, but it's in the upper right corner before 6, right behind the squiggly line. I was thinking that this would be Thorne's town, as it's really far away from anything. The squiggly line is supposed to represent forest boundary, so Thorne is in a small forest near a larger one, which I planned to be Calyrex's forest. Thorne prevents anyone from setting foot on the far side of the river without his approval, but you have to cross because reasons, probably Team Luster reasons, so you need to fight him?
6 - Okay, this gets kinda involved, but I had a big idea for Victory Road and the Pokemon League, and 6 is the first part of that. 6 is the waterfalls that are the start of the main river in Weigo.
7 - @pinkshellos suggested a coral reef biome, and I was interested in that, so I thought that the coral reef could be on the other side of the falls, filtering the water from the sea and helping to limit it so the whole region doesn't flood. Also there is a super cool town here. Like Pacifidlog, but a coral reef.
8 - Okay, this is where I get kinda involved. So, the suggestion of the archipelago got me thinking about Victory Road, and how in every game I've played, Victory Road is mainly a cave. So, I was thinking, what if for Weigo, all the gyms are on the inside of the mountain range, but Victory Road is an archipelago leading from cool coral town to a big island (the one you see from volcano island) where the second group of people first saw the Weigo Region? That was what I was thinking for that.
9 - okay, so deserts are dry, which means that something needs to block both rain and rivers, so I went with a bunch of weird mountain formations creating a rain shadow effect on this particular place. 9 is the town between the river and the desert, it's got a bridge across the river, and also due to it's placement in the region which was totally intentional might be a good place to first mention Calyrex: "Oh, except for that Thorne guy, people don't really go that far east of here because of the woods and those scary pokemon in them." "My cousin says that there's a really powerful pokemon deep in the forest who protects all the other pokemon." "Oh, that cousin fo yours! Always telling stories."
10 - This is where Sandy is, it's much smaller than the town with the bridge on the river. I am torn between a town that is in a really tough place to live (lots of sandstorms, go-goggles required (maybe get them in 9?)) or if only the route is tough to get through, and the town is in a pleasant oasis (Sandy could give a speech about how only though persevering through difficulties will you reach any rewards.)
11 - where Calyrex lives. I picked a corner of the map so that it would require you to walk through the whole area, but I am only now noticing that it is pushed up against some mountains. Maybe a cave with lots of moss and a skylight? Just spitballing ideas here.

So, I know it's incomplete, but it's late and I didn't want to forget any of this.

@Electro - I love the map! I really like the overall vibe of Weigo that we've got going now, as well as the unique and thought-out ideas you've contributed. I can't wait to see where this goes as other people weigh in.

I do not have anything of substance to add with this post. Instead, I have written a 500-word mini-fic about two of our established characters that really pique my interest: Clarabelle and Thorne. Here it is!

Clarabelle’s mission was supposed to be simple: breach the divide separating the Everbloom Forest from the rest of Weigo, confirm the presence of the Eleki Beacon, and get the heck out. Of course, this being a mission outside the cushy confines of Team Luster HQ, things were destined to be thoroughly un-simple.

Her heels struggled against the tangling thicket underfoot as she mashed a manicured nail against the screen of her phone, whose function had deteriorated to a point where even turning on the flashlight to combat the creeping dimness of the forest wasn’t possible. She didn’t dare release her Chandelure for fear of setting the whole place alight – not that that would matter once Team Luster had had their way with the forest, of course. Her grunt escort seemed to be having similar problems, tapping away at a tablet to no avail.

“This place gives me the creeps,” Clarabelle muttered under her breath. “Why couldn’t Alina send Fynn? He’d be much better at this kind of thing.”

“Fynn wouldn’t survive two minutes in this place,” said the grunt. “No adoring fans.”

“That’s insubordination,” she said back, but it came out weak. She sucked in a breath, and took another tentative step forward. Unfortunately, this step produced a gut-wrenching snap – Clarabelle looked down just in time to see the broken tripwire, and miss the net descending on her from above.

After two minutes of flailing and kicking against the net’s restraints, yelling at her thoroughly unhelpful grunt, and cursing her luck that the only thing sharp she had was her outfit, Clarabelle heard footsteps coming through the trees.

“Hey!” she yelled. “Over here! Can you please let me down from this stupid thing?”

The person who emerged from the trees seemed rather unperturbed by her cries, glancing up at her from under a mess of hair and a large hat. Their clothes were covered in so many leaves and branches that it almost constituted a ghillie suit, and their heavy boots seemed much more suited to the terrain than Clarabelle’s shoes. A quartet of Poke Balls adorned their belt.

They held up a branch like a weapon. “State your business.”

She gritted her teeth. “I am Clarabelle, Admin of Team Luster, and I –”

“I’m going to stop you right there, honey-bun. I’m… generally not a fan of humans, but lately Team Luster have been particularly high on my no-no list.”

“Who even are you?”

“My name is Thorne. I am the envoy of this forest. Listen very closely: I am going to cut you down from my trap, and then you are going to turn around and leave this place as fast as possible. If you do not agree with this, my associate will make you.”

As if on cue, a large, looming Shiftry emerged from the trees behind them, its arms cocked in a battle stance.

Unfazed by Clarabelle’s leering gaze, Thorne clicked their tongue. “Do you understand me?”

SPRUNG YOU WROTE ABOUT CLARABELLE AND FYNN AND THORNE?! Reading that made my whole day oml
Also link me to that picrew and I’ll make matching icons of what I think Fynn and Clarabelle look like asap
Edit: I found the picrew :D
Now introducing…

If anyone wants to use the same picrew to make gym leaders/E4 members/side characters/main characters/professor/rival it’s here!

I also really like the map! If I ever have time/a chance I might try my hand at making a digital version (I’ve tried my hand at making regional maps in the style of HGSS’s town map before cuz I like those assets, would y’all be interested in that?)
We might have to move some towns further inland or change the scaling — the mountain range could move through the region and curve around one of the coastlines so the desert and mountain(?) locations, plus the oasis, could be further inland maybe?

I don’t have a new idea for a regional form yet but if I do I will post about it immediately

My hand slipped
Jett looked at the electric lights above him, and the electric guitar in his hands, and the electric wall ports that were currently charging his phone. In the big city, it was just Electric this, Electric that. A lot of this stuff was powered by Wyatt’s Pokémon, but of course, Wyatt wasn’t here to see it. He never was.
“At the gym again?” Jett asked Tripp, the only other Double Time member in the studio.
“Yep. And I’ll give you three guesses where Fynn is.”
“That Luster building he’s always going on about?”
Tripp only nodded to indicate the other boy’s correctness. “Should we get started anyway?”
“Why would we? The routine needs the others to work. Without Fynn, we don’t even have a SINGER.”
“You’re right as always, Jett. A battle instead?” He held up the Pokeball that Jett knew probably contained his Scrafty.
“Of course.” Jett grabbed his Skarmory and ran outside.
It was a long and intense battle, especially for a one on one, but eventually Tripp won.
Jett recalled his Pokémon and stretched. “You could probably win yourself a real Circut Badge if you wanted to.”
Tripp’s hand went to the replica Wyatt had given all of them, stored in his pocket. “Yeah, but that would just encourage him.”
I’m adding skarmory to be Jett’s ace if it isn’t already here.
EDIT: I rlly need to stop being so clumsy

Yes that is an aro pin you see and yes that was intentional. This is more casual clothes, the stuff he’d be wearing around the gym, as opposed to his stage getup which is similar to Fynn’s but in yellow and blue.

Okokokok I had an idea for a mid game regional form finally! … coincidentally, it’s the Shellos line, but not because of my username. Probably.
I’m going to try a fun region-specific evolution with these guys, but if y’all don’t lik it we can veto it and just have them evolve into regional variants of Gastrodon.
In the Weigo region, two variants of Shellos can be found that differ drastically from their Sinnohan counterparts.

Desert Form Shellos —> Saharopod
In the dry, desert region of Weigo, Desert Shellos can be found. This form of Shellos has hard, rock-like plates on its body to help keep its squishy body protected and to regulate its temperature. Unlike their Sinnohan counterparts, they have mostly dull brown coloring to blend into their surroundings, although they have a similar yellow and white underbelly.
These Shellos are usually found near the desert’s famous oasis, but can also be found under rocks and in caves — anywhere they can find at least a little bit of moisture. A long time ago, humans observed their ability to detect and absorb minuscule amounts of water and learned from it to help survive under harsh wasteland conditions.

Desert Shellos evolves into Saharopod when exposed to a Sun Stone. Saharopod has has an impressive-looking wide, spiky shell to hide its squishy underside. It stores water in the nooks and crannies of its shell. Despite its imposing appearance, it will let other pokemon sleep in the shadows cast by its shell to get some reprieve from the bright sun.

Name origin: Sahara (the desert, because desert) + gastropod (the taxonomic class that contains snails and slugs)

Reef Form Shellos —> Caledopod
On Weigo’s volcanic islands and in its oceans, Reef Shellos can be found. This form of Weigoan Shellos has red, blue, and yellow patterns and growths on its back and head that mimic the shape of the coral reefs it often lives in. However, these Shellos are also comfortable living near underwater volcanic vents or hot springs on land. They can tolerate incredibly hot temperatures and spray scalding water — or even fire — to ward off predators.

Reef Shellos evolve into Caledopod when exposed to a Sun Stone. Caledopod has a thinner, more graceful-looking body than Gastrodon and the same colorful patterns and growths as Reef Shellos, although it is highly debated in the scientific community whether the growths are meant to mimic coral reef branches or flames. Caledopod have been seen lounging in pools of lava like they’re hot springs.

Name origin: Caledonia (from the New Caledonian Barrier Reef) + gastropod (the taxonomic class that contains snails and slugs)

I actually really like these guys, even more than the Weigoan Goldeen line I made before. In my mind, Reef Shellos and Caledopod really take full advantage of how cool sea slugs can look and Desert Shellos and Saharopod are cute, chunky little snails.
But wait… there’s more!
Ok, I haven’t exactly decided on a tree name for her yet. I was thinking Professor Eucalyptus because the region has reminded me a little bit of the Australia + NZ + Tasmania region with the desert + islands combo, but eucalyptus might be too blatant of a tree name. What do you guys think?
I’m also indecisive on her first name, so if anyone wants to suggest names for her, please do so! One that was on my mind for her was Taliyah.

IMG_5080.png

Professor Eucalyptus studies the way pokemon respond and adapt to changes in their environment. She’s very concerned about Team Luster’s activities and even more concerned about human activity agitating the legendary pokemon that live within Weigo. She travels through the region quite frequently with the help of her partner pokemon, a Weigoan Gogoat.

She gives starter pokemon to new trainers in hopes that a journey around the region will teach them to respect the beauty of nature and its wild pokemon.

Before she was a pokemon professor, she traveled around Weigo as a pokemon trainer, and then became a pokemon ranger after that. She’s not afraid to get her hands dirty for science! In fact, she may aid the player in fighting Team Luster at some point in the game. She may even battle you if you ask — once you’re strong enough, that is!

If you ask around, some of Professor Eucalyptus’ close friends and lab colleagues will tell you that once, she looked up to another scientist who was researching the effects of light on pokemon behavior, but was dismayed when this scientist began influencing wild habitats with light in a way that she deemed unethical.

She works closely with Elite Four member Aarhus on several projects involving cleaning up polluted areas.
IMG_5078.png

IMG_5081.png

Of course, I had to do a nonbinary pride Thorne as well… they’re not very good at smiling for the camera.

I also had some thoughts about the overarching plot + mechanics of the game earlier.
The way Team Luster has been designed so far, they might work best as side villains who are mostly ineffective/comedy relief kind of like Team Skull.

So, what if the real threat and biggest, baddest bosses in the game were the various legendary pokemon around Weigo who are provoked into a rampage as a result of Team Luster’s activities?

The battles could be handled similarly to Max Raid battles but with slightly tweaked mechanics in order to be more conducive to strategies like setting up buffs/debuffs/weather/etc. You’d have 2-4 allies as well, probably main characters who happen to be in the vicinity (your rival, a local gym leader, a member of Double Time?, and even the professor.)

When things look especially dire, such as if Team Luster’s plans cause the Regigigas slumbering within the ancient city to wake up, Clarabelle/Fynn/Alina might be forced to team up with you as well.

Once the legendary pokemon is defeated, it will calm down enough for an important character (possibly the player at some point) to make amends with it, probably striking a bargain that the nearby human activity will be less intrusive to nature.

The same Max Raid-like mechanics could also be used when battling particularly powerful wild pokemon, and they’ll probably be introduced to you by the professor, your rival, or Gym Leader Tara via a tutorial fight against a decently powerful, fully evolved early game mon. Kind of like totem pokemon, they just don’t replace badges. Or the (Legends Arceus spoiler ahead btw) “alpha pokemon” they recently revealed for Legends Arceus.
WHEW that’s a lot. I’m gonna lay off for the next day or two and give other people a chance to contribute.

i yoinked sugar's team, replaced brick break, added a bit of flavour (it's mostly over-sweetened ice tea) and BOOM. Second gym leader.
Kara, despite her young age (she’s like 7 idk), has risen to become a great trainer. She makes her home on a mountain not because it’s a good place to train (though it’s that too), but because the view is “prettyyyy”. At least the side that looks over the archipelago. The desert is boring.
Her gym puzzle is less “puzzle” and more “meet my childish whims right now or I don’t battle you.” More specifically, she wants a show. She wants to see you battle, so she sends in her (exasperated) gym trainers to do it for her.
Once you do that, she claps and says “Oh! That was wonderful! Thank you for coming! Goodbye! …….. Why aren’t you gone? Ah, the Gym Badge. I’ll battle you for it, then.”
Team: lv19 riolu (work up, endure, metal claw, rock smash)
lv20 croagunk (venoshock, rock smash, taunt, revenge)
lv21 hawlucha (rock smash, feather dance, aerial ace, detect)
Upon defeat, she expresses sadness, but unlike Whitney, manages to give you her badge (i need a name help) and the TM for Rock Smash through her tears.

You guys I am absolutely in love with every single character that has graced this thread so far I am going to draw them all just you wait
@sugar heart : NB PLAYER CHARA HELL YEAH!! do the protagonists have default names? I could help with brainstorming some. I love the idea of picking one gender neutral default name that could be used to refer to all of them since they are all technically the mc
@KitkatKK2 : every single gym leader you’ve added has been an absolute slam dunk I swear. I love the dichotomy of Tara being a normal type gym leader and a children’s tv star but being competitive and kinda grumpy off-camera and Kara immediately after her being a fighting-type gym leader, who you’d expect to be badass and serious, but is actually a silly little kid. I just realized this is probably intentional since their names rhyme—

edit: do y’all think it would be useful to start a google doc or something so we could put all this info in order + all in one place? If I had time I’d offer to copy a bunch of it over, maybe sometime in the next few days I might have time for that.

So, I'm planning to try to make an updated map later tonight, but right now I'm just trying to make sure that I have the gym leader biomes in order so that I can plan where everything goes. I'm gonna list my understanding of where each gym leader goes, please correct me if I'm wrong!
1 - normal, savannah
2 - fighting, mountains
3 - ground, desert
4 - water, volcano island
5 - ???, ???
6 - electric, new city

@pinkshellos - ask and ye shall receive! We now have a Google doc where we can collate all our ideas (let's not forget about the thread though, I think this place is still a really great tool for collaboration).

also I can't believe my Alina picrew and little fic with Clarabelle and Thorne inspired SO MUCH. I'm blown away by the love you guys have for all this

Howdy! I'm Toyo the Toyo. So this is what the inside of a Pokedex is like...
i don't have a line to add rn, but i'm definitely thinking gym 2 should be fighting on mountain biome

team probably consists of something like
lv19 riolu (work up, endure, metal claw, brick break)
lv20 croagunk (venoshock, brick break, taunt, revenge)
lv21 hawlucha (brick break, feather dance, aerial ace, detect)

and as you can see by the movepool, this gym leader gives you the tm for brick break upon defeat
okay time for the toyo to pull off the big brain move

we have regional forms, both are fighting in their evolved forms, and luxio isn't something too out of place for gym 2. what i'm saying is that one of these should be weigo luxio instead

okay now for the part with that remaining gym, hilarious concept. you know a beach, right? and beaches are super hot! so naturally this means we're going to have a cold room that everyone will abuse an ice gym!

naturally their ace is going to be either vanillish or maybe vanilluxe because of course they're selling some "these are definitely not casteliacones" (idr what the difficulty curve is but i am also making an executive decision of "unova levels bad" so we're not using vanillite), but we don't actually have too much ice variety beyond that: it's a couple of legends, glaceon, spheal line, snorunt line, fridge rotom (they DEFINITELY have this too, but maybe specifically altered to not have blizzard if it's too stronk) and C R A B. it's the rarest type so it makes sense we have so few though

maybe the galar mime would fit them too but i'm not calling this an official submission for a line or anything. anyways i just wanted to get this brain worm out there before i forgot to post about it
