Ngl, posting about my current team seems to be bad juju sometimes, but Im gonna just roll with it. Playing White 2 Challenge Mode finally (I play cartridge on principle, and that meant borrowing my sister’s copy of Black 2 that she hasn’t played in 5 years to clear 5 gyms and the league in 3 days to unlock hard mode to trade that hard mode to White 2)
anway, currently grinding on the low leveled wild Patrat and Purloin on Route 19 to get EVs to survive against Cheren the Chernebog. Got a light military aesthetic going on with the naming
the team:
Turbine the Tepig. Female, Adamant Nature. Likes to Thrash About
I generally just save in front of the starter and keep rolling until I get something good, tbh. Yeah maybe that goes against the spirit of the challenge, but given that this is Hard Mode? I didn’t particularly feel any shame before, I sure won’t now. With that in mind, I wanted at least ONE IV to be above 30, if not more, with a good nature and for the others to not be utter bollocks. So I kept rolling until I got Adamant, 31 Attack, 20+ Hp, and at least 10 for every other stat (now at level 10ish, her SpA seems to be like 30, and Def 20). I don’t think I’ll ever NOT be paranoid that her not having perfect Defenses and/or Speed might get her killed, but I’ll just have to have a bit of faith.
As for Turbine herself, I imagine her as a bit of rodeo clown, wannabe sheriff type, with a mild Texan drawl.
Spyglass the Patrat. Female, Careful Nature. Proud of Her Power. Run Away
Hey, say what you will about Patrat and Watchog, Gen V STAB Tackle is Gen V STAB Tackle, and after the first gym she’ll have STAB Return, so that should help buy our team some time. I’ve actually used Watchog late game more than I really ought to, and it was better that I’d have thought. Not exactly GOOD, but it got the job done.
Spyglass is the kind of girl who mixes her own water, 2 parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. She can’t risk someone cheaping out and mixing in some Tritium to cut corners, y’know? Never mind that tritium’s more expensive, but you get the idea. Then again, being Paranoid has its advantages when everyone is trying to kill you…
Oliver the Sewaddle. Male, Serious Nature. Somewhat Vain, Chlorophyll
Sewaddle is honestly a Gigachad pre first gym catch. A base power 60 STAB move at level 8, with base 70 Defense. Watch out for flying and fire moves, and you’ll be just fine. Plus, Bug Bite should ruin Lillipup’s day by stealing that Oran Berry
I like to imagine that he’s got the voice of a crusty old Vietnam War Veteran. Not a shell shocked veteran, mind you, just a guy who’s seen some serious crap already even tho he looks like he’s about 3 years old.
Warlock the Psyduck. Male, Impish Nature. Somewhat of a Clown, Cloud Nine
Dang, not even a badge and I’ve already got a Grass/Fire/Water core. Not super thrilled with Impish nature on a Psyduck, but it’s not like he can’t learn or make use of any good physical moves. Ignoring Sandstorm chip damage and SpD Buff to Rocks is also always a nice bonus
I don’t have a good read on this guy yet. I’m not entirely convinced he’s playing with a full deck of cards, but I’m also not convinced that he isn’t somehow winning anyway.
