Unpopular opinions time!
1) I liked Incineroar BEFORE he was added to Smash, I love cats and I grew up watching WWE so I loved it
2) Hatterene is my favorite gen 8 mon because it is the vibe check monster, nasty vibe? Hatterene kills you
3) Gen 8's world is more lively then the other gens, this is because I know there are other trainers challenging the gyms besides my rivals and me
4) Unite seems fine, but it really shouldn't have gotten its own Pokemon presents, at the very least we should know that it was going to be only about this game. Snap 2 deserved it more.

I also liked Incineroar from the beginning. But in terms of unpopular Alolan starter love, I must admit that Popplio was my favorite from the very first reveal and that has never changed in the slightest. I never did understand why Rowlet was so popular and Popplio was so hated.

Black and White 2 are pretty good! Their story is passable and their gameplay is some of my favorite in any Pokémon game. Easy and Challenge mode were really neat concepts and implemented well, and the games have resulted in some of my most memorable nuzlockes.

chikorita isn't a bad pokemon, it's just unfortunately got the worst line up of gyms to deal with as a grass type.

Chikorita would probably be more well-liked if it wasn't for the gym thing and the fact that the Cyndaquil and Totodile lines both drip pure liquid awesome.

Popplio is unpopular? Well, okay, I definitely know a number of detractors to Popplio itself. But Primarina seems to be rather popular as far as I can tell. If anything, Incineroar is the one I see people dislike more. Torracat is better anyway.

Oh yeah, Popplio was hated like crazy back before Primarina was unveiled. Primarina made it somewhat more loved.

Adept at procrastination. If he ever seems productive, it's likely because he's ignoring something far more important.

OK, no issues with the rest of your message... But requiring you to beat the game and then link with someone else to use either Hard Mode or Easy Mode is not a good way to implement that feature.

@Emperor ServingSpoon ah, yeah, fair enough. I’ve played and replayed the games so often that it’s never been an issue for me, so I honestly forget about it 90% of the time

Despite being a Grass-type, Casual is a flaming lesbian. Fire and Grass don't usually mix, but somehow it works out here.
Chikorita is a fantastic Pokemon and I would recommend it over Cyndaquil to people starting Johto nuzlockes, thanks to strong performances against three of the hardest fights in the game (Whitney, Chuck, Clair's Kingdra, all fights that Cyndaquil is helpless against) and other "problem" gyms having mitigating factors (Jasmine can't hit Meganium back, Pryce's three are all weak to Grass, Morty dies to a Normal type anyway so why bother comparing the starters)

I think people just hate it because it looks unassuming and isn't an offensively-oriented mon (especially when Charizard has it even worse in Kanto and gets nowhere near as much criticism)

Chikorita is pretty good if you play to its strengths. I'd take it any day over Decidueye, who's kinda slow, kinda frail, weak to the Dark-coverage-spam plaguing Alola, and never feels like it has a safe match-up. Or Emboar, who just isn't any fun to use at all.

I'd disagree Charizard has equally bad match-ups as Chiko though. You have... Brock, Misty, and Lorelei. Giovanni if you haven't evolved. With neutral match-up on Blaine. Gen I Lance is super easy, barely an inconvenience while Gen III you either have Flying-STAB or the Dragon Claw TM from Victory Road. Every other fight, Charizard can participate against something with a neutral match-up at worst. And in Gen I, a lot of those bad match-ups don't even matter because the A.I. movesets are awful. Like, with a Potion or two and Ember, Charmander can easily solo Brock if you're patient and Growl all the Bide turns.

Not counting Yellow or LGPE there because Charmander isn't your starter in either.

...Blastoise is the king of Kanto though, IMO...

Gen 1 Charmander is worse than Gen 2 Chikorita for sure. Ember is the Charmander line's only STAB option until Fly (and that's only in Yellow). Charmander's Special stat in Gen 1 also matches its Special Defense stat in later gens, so Chikorita's first STAB being Razor Leaf, and it getting it before level 10 means it's hitting harder from the start, despite being a defensively oriented Pokemon.

Charmander's line has improved a lot since then... But in their debut games, Chikorita does it better for sure.

But wait, can't you get Flamethrower/Fire Blast as soon as you hit Celadon?

*Double checks*

...oh, never mind there. Well... at least the non-Psychics aren't usually faring much better that Gen.

A lot of stuff sucks in Gen 1, yes. Though you get Dig (100 power), Bubble Beam, Thunderbolt and Body Slam TMs all before Rock Tunnel, so any of those types are usually doing fine (with three of those being valid endgame options). Rock Slide, Ice Beam, Fly and Psychic all appear around Celadon, too. So Gen 1 Kanto's honestly pretty generous with giving out strong TMs of varied types relatively early (the main issue just being some more questionable TM compatibility choices in some Pokemon's cases). But Flamethrower not becoming a tutor/TM until Crystal and Fire Blast being the 7th Gym's gift means Fire Pokemon are stuck with their level up moves or coverage TMs for most of the game.

Yep! It's pretty great! ...Unless your name's Surge.
(Or Koga, Blaine, Agatha, and many others to a lesser extent.)
