That's right gamers, I'm bringing this thread over to the new forums

Remember not to be rude! We are all but human in this every changing pond, so like > : Y

I'm gonna start with one I've shared before, and a very small group does seem to agree with me.

For what they were, I really enjoyed the Kalos games! Like, I know they didn't have the best plot or characters or anything, but also the graphic jump from the last game was MASSIVE. I don't think there was one bad pokemon in Kalos, and the music was T A S T E Y.
On top of that, the encounter tables make it the most interesting game to nuzlocke, because once you get past the second town you're bound to always be dealt a different hand.

So, Kalos. One of my favorite regions.

Shit me too fam. Kalos so good. KALOS IS LIFE I WOULD DEFEND KALOS to any shittalker. Besides fun level design, they have wonderful lore and aesthetic [chefkiss]. Related to that, I actually feel the characters are OK? Like most of them them serve a purpose in the story but sadly yeah, rather not utilized to the max-- which relates to my next unpop opinion:

Cynthia is better DP because in Plat she's really useless like she's trying too hard to help you but forces things on you and keeps you running around and does nothing in front of the enemies like she didn't stop a Galactic Grunt running her way or even battle stuff herself and often leave us behind to pop up and does nothing, like why are you even a champion, man. The world will be saved sooner if you'd just do your job properly.

In hindsight I think it's just GF didn't know how to coordinate both gameplay and narrative at the same time, like I understand they want the player to be the hero, but not like this.

I'm willing to forgive them about this cause hey, they do try to improve it! (and this doesn't change the fact that Sinnoh is my favorite region)

GF as they are, are under appreciated like while Pokemon is big, it'd actually just because of TPC making it big. GF isn't as big as people thought they ought to be (they have roughly just short of 150 people on the company, all of those defo not working on Pokemon the game) so... some appreciation are overdue for them imo, esp in lieu of some recent policy change.

NO, No I agree too!! Granted, this is also coming from someone who HAS mentioned thinking Delcatty is fun to use! (as I think we've previously discussed) which is the REAL unpopular pokemon opinion here. So, I guess take what I say on what is or isn't good with a grain of salt.

THAT said, I think the most fun I've had using stantler in a run is by using it as sort of a trickster pokemon. I can TELL you the moveset I used. Confuse ray, stomp, Zen Head Butt, and hypnosis. It was really funny hearing my friend screech because when they weren't confused, they were asleep, and when they weren't asleep, they were flinching.

But again. I guess I REALLY like pokemon that aren't "inherently good" but there are still really fun ways to use them : 3 c

STANTLER IS AMAZING......
It has incredible firepower with 95 base attack and you can get it as early as Morty, which is sick because it disposes of Morty AND comes pre-loaded with Astonish. That lasts until at least the 6th badge, a lot of utility, and a heaping amount of personality!! The intimidate makes it a lot bulkier, and it has GREAT 85 base speed for that point in the game. If your pokemon's levels are in the teens/20s, it's an absolute monster on the team!! A Stantler stomping you at level 20 or below WILL hurt a LOT even if you resist it. It can easily 2HKO or OHKO most pokemon at that point.

Like @Bigredlittlewolf said, it has a really mean arsenal of moves to annoy, and if you wanna keep it on long-term, it learns Thunderwave for a ParaConfuseFlinch combo that can HURT. It even learns Wild Charge, Jump Kick and Me First! Those really help with coverage in later gens, and it has a decent support movepool.

Also, since when do people make fun of it for its design?? It's one of my favorite designed pokemon!

Only villains dislike Stantler.

Still a member of the Popplio Defense Squad since its inception 3 years ago, and that's extended to the whole evolutionary family. Idk if it's unpopular here but I know my favorite Water starter is seen with mixed reviews in the overall fandom. Not like I'll let that deter me though.

This Pokemon is widely considered to be an Elder God by the church of r/nuzlocke, while in reality, it is just a big, frequently inactive shitposter.
Ooh I see Stantler AND Kalos support already, this is a good thread and we're not even one page in :D

I'm just gonna say it. Plusle and Minun aren't that bad either, especially in Hoenn games (specifically R/S/E). In a world full of water, including a water gym and (sometimes) a water champion, they can come in handy if you didn't get an Manectric/Magneton/Electrode by chance. They're a low tier option in term of the other electric types, but are good when you have no other good water coverage. Same goes w/ Roselia in R/S/E for pretty much the same thing but I always use Treecko so I don't see 'em in action as much lmao

@Crusticus YASSSSSS!!! I have used Minun a couple of times in emerald and it is SO BAMF.

Opinion. Hot take! There is no bad Pokemon, and you can literally use whatever you want. Just because you don't like it or it is outclassed in stats/moves of another Pokemon doesn't make it bad.

Also, Avalugg and Bergmite should have been ice/bug, 4x weakness be DAMNED.

absolutely agreed on this one. It's really in the spirit of the challenge to work with what you have imo because pretty much anything can get you through a run if you use them right. Maybe a lot of these random 'Mons suck in competitive, but in a Nuzlocke, or ESPECIALLY just in a standard run, it's always fun to mess with new teams and try to win with something unconventional.

Also, Avalugg and Bergmite should have been ice/bug, 4x weakness be DAMNED.
I LOVE bug types (and all the "evil" types like bug, dark, ghost) and this'd be awesome. I honestly feel like GF could do way more with type variety with a lot of Pokemon, but it's always cool to think of the possibilities. I used to mess around with ROM hacking just to give some Pokemon "fancy but still reasonable" types tbh.

going onto another unpopular opinion: Bug types are underrated and I'm REALLY glad Gen 5 fleshed them out so much. Leavanny, Volcarona, Galvantula, Scolipede, Crustle, Escavalier, Accelgor, MY BOY GENESECT. Heck, even Durant is neat. why so many steel/bug tho

Mega Beedrill coolest mega form ez btw

Damn we laying down the opinions hot and flat.

I like delcatty! I like delcatty a lot. I think that it has a fun strategy when it comes to forcing, enemies to fall in love with you, and then being able to paralyze them, or poison them or what have you. You don't gotta have a high defense when you can just make it so that the enemy never hits you!!
Anyway, delcatty is perfect and I'm love it.

Ok yeah I have to admit, @Crusticus is right. I don’t like bug types (at all) but gen 5 really Did That. She was That Bitch.

There were some really cool bugs that gen, and I think the only other gen That did something great for them was Gen 1. Gen 4 had a SLIGHT uptick (ha) but... like... until gen 5 bug types weren’t... for me...

I will work for the Popplio defense squad but Brionne is on THIN ice!!

In my opinion, Eevee and its evolutions are a hard to pinpoint line and the apparently good ones are actually quite crap.

Sure, a few of them are pretty damn solid and having a guaranteed 130/110/95 spread on 3 stats is nifty, but as a whole they're not as good as people make them out to be, or at least the most commonly used ones or favoured ones.

Flareon? Sure it's a bit slow and most people bemoan that lack of options for its 130 attack, but it has a servicable special attack and some decent special bulk, plus has the benefit of physically being the 'canon' Eevee evolution by design.

Vaporeon? Definitely not as bulky as people make it out to be. That pitiful physical defence means it struggles to withstand heavy hitters and hinders it as a so-called bulky water, while offensively it's rather underwhelming aside from the usual water pokemon moves.

Jolteon's basically a slower Electrode statwise with a bit more special attack and all the lack of movepool that many quadrupeds suffer from.

Espeon is probably the best of the bunch, but suffers from being a horrible happiness based evolution (friendship evolution is the worst idea ever implemented for evolution) and its design just feels off. I respect the fact it's basically a special glass cannon and has a decent enough movepool to use that with, but man does its spindly appearance look iffy.

Umbreon should have been a poison type and would have been better as one.

The last three seriously shouldn't have came into being. I strongly feel that leafeon and Glaceon were the result of Game Freak milking Eevee for all it was worth and really should have had their own divergent evolution line.

Sylveon's just a garish mess of impractical design and everything wrong with the Eeveelution concept taken to its ridiculous conclusion. It feels far too engendered compared to the other eeveelutions, and exists solely to advertise the fairy type, and even then it doesn't do the typing justice.

Well, this is certainly a hot take. I feel like all of the Eeveelutions are usable to some extent, but there's usually something better out there. Jolteon is just one of my favorite electric types in general (mostly sentimental value, he was my first lv100 and my XD starter) and Sylveon was the MVP of my first X run, so I'm a bit biased probably.

Alright, I'm just going to say it: [gen8 spoiler]The Pokedex being cut in SwSh is NOT a problem for me. I'm not really a collector or completionist. Really the only thing I try to keep are my shinies, so it's whatever. HOWEVER, going back from hot to cold, the other glaring issues and overall laziness from GF are still really, really rough.

oh boy a lot of people aren't gonna agree with this but thats the point of the thread ain't it
I never could really get into the plot of black and white. it's got a lot of good things going for it, like the importance of gym leaders to the plot and N is a solid character, and I completely understand why it's central theme captures people's attention. The game throws a lot of characters into the spotlight, to the point where many of their personalities feel like characatures (especially with the gym leaders). I found the constant rival battles with both Cheren and Bianca tiring and never felt invested in them. tldr people give these games more credit than they deserve, mostly due to N/morality themes
I'm not saying it's a bad plot (it's no xy) but personally I think the plots of gens I and II hold up better in retrospect. I even found the characters in sun and moon more charming all around than in bw

Despite being a Grass-type, Casual is a flaming lesbian. Fire and Grass don't usually mix, but somehow it works out here.
Chikorita does not suffer in Johto. Not one bit.

The matchups Chiko struggles with are either pretty pathetic (Falkner, GSC Bugsy, almost all of the Rockets bar Archer), have easy-to-get counters (HGSS Bugsy, Morty), or have other aspects that render the matchup not as much of a problem as otherwise thought (Jasmine not being able to hit very hard in return, Pryce's three all being weak to Grass). Combine that with Meganium being very good for three of the hardest fights in the game (Whitney, Chuck, Clair's Kingdra), and you get a damn solid wall that can tank through a LOT and come out no worse for wear.

It never quite knows what it's doing. Yet, somehow, things still get done.
The island challenges in gen 7 were a really nice change of pace. I honestly wasn't sorry to see gyms go, and would've been content with them keeping different forms of challenges as your checkpoints for future gens instead of going back to the gym system |D
