As is the tradition, whenever the forums move we have to have a Mafia about it.

Welcome to Tapatexit Mafia (subtitle: Teams against Tapatalk). (Chess convinced me that this was the correct spelling)

First up, how to Play Mafia, by Tsubasa Cat Emoji/pluslefan:

Mafia is an asymmetrical team-based game, where two sides try to figure out each other's roles and eliminate players on the other faction. The two sides - Village and Mafia - each contain a different number of players, and have different abilities and rules governing then. The game takes place over alternating Day and Night phases, where in the night phase, the Mafia choose a player to kill, and then in the Day phase, all players vote on a player to lynch, including the mafia. No players may post in the thread during Nights (although players may converse via private messages such as the pm system here on the forums or through discord, skype or any other chatting software), but some players may have unique abilities that can be used during the night, those players are referred to as PRs or Power Roles. A list of PRs will be in the original post along with a (hopefully up to date) list of players still alive. When killed, players lose the ability to post or interact with other players, and are instead left to cheer on their faction from the sidelines!

The Village has the majority of the players, and usually, none of their players will know each other. Typical power roles for village include roles that gain insight into the alignment of other players, such as Cop, Detective, Justice and some others, and roles that protect other players from death, such as Doctor or Nurse.

A common strategy for the Village is to have one of their Power Roles claim in the thread during the day, and have every player other player message them with their role. This allows the Power Role to direct the other players on who to vote for based on this information gathered, and effectively decide on the day lynches as long as they stay alive. It can also protect that and other Power Roles from being lynched. The Village tends to win when all Mafia players have been killed, though sometimes they must eliminate a third party as well. Remember, an active and talkative village is a good village! Don't be discouraged if you don't get a Village PR role, every member of the village counts in the end. There are a lot of plays that only villagers could accomplish, so think outside the box!

The Mafia has a smaller number of players typically around 1/4 of the total number, but each player typically knows the identity of other Mafia players. As well as being able to vote on the lynch each day, the Mafia can choose to kill one player every night phase. Usually, this faction contains roles that can disrupt the abilities of the Village Power Roles. They will want to target the players they think are most likely to be village Power Roles, based on discussion during the Day.

A common strategy for the Mafia is to "counter-claim" any claims in thread by a Village Power Role. This allows them to prevent the Village from organising, although it also puts one of their players at risk. The mafia benefits from the Village being unable to organise, as then they can gently push the lynch onto a player that isnt with the Mafia. The Mafia win when they have the same amount of living players as the village.

In some games, there may also be a Third Party. The Third Party will usually have their own win condition unrelated to the other two factions, which may or may not end the game when it is fulfilled. Each Third Party plays differently and has different strategies, so you will need to think carefully about what your plan should be if you are one!

No matter which side you/re on, you should be making sure to pay careful attention to the thread during the Day phases, in order to notice anything out of the ordinary. Different players each have different tells as to whether or not theyre a Power Role, a Mafia, or just a Villager, and both sides will want to spot these in order to determine a plan of action. Participation is key! Whether your post is friendly banter or a serious accusation every post can be helpful in determining who the mafia or village prs are.

Finally, emphasis should be placed on the fact that Mafia is very much a game, rather than a role-play. Players should make sure that they're playing for their side rather than the side they think should win - but, most of all, they should make sure that theyre having fun! Respect other players, and make sure not to just rush into a plan because one person is talking louder than the rest. Good luck!

Rules:

Section 1: How to play the game
1. At the start of the game, every player will receive a role PM telling them what their role is, and mafia members will be told who the other mafia members are.
2. The game will consist of alternating night and day phases, starting at Night One. Unless indicated otherwise by the host, night phases last 24 hours, and day phases last 48 hours.
3. During the night, players can send night actions by responding to their role PM with their action. In addition to night actions listed in each role description, the mafia can collectively choose one player to kill every night.
4. During the day, all living players can discuss in the thread to determine their next course of action. Anyone can post "Vote: PlayerName" to cast a vote to lynch that player. At the end of the day, if more than 50% of the living players are voting for the same player, that player will be lynched.
5. When voting for who to kill at night, the mafia member that actually performs the night kill is decided by the mafia. This is done by having the visitor of their choice include that they will be the visitor in their night action PM. If none do so, the last mafia member to vote will visit.
6. When a player dies, their role will be revealed in the thread.
7. The village wins when all mafia members are dead. The mafia wins when the number of mafia members is equal to half of the living players. All third parties have unique win conditions explained in their role description.

Section 2: What not to do
8. If you have a night action, and you don't post or send any actions for three consecutive phases, you will be inactive killed. If you don't have a night action, you'll be inactive killed after missing two consecutive day phases. Players killed by inactivity do not win, even if their win condition is met.
9. Don't do metagaming. That's when you use info like "Oh, that guy is using the PM system shortly after the night began! He must have some sort of night action!" Metagaming has many forms, so if you think something might be metagaming, check with the host first.
10. Play for your side. If your actions are obviously aiming to sabotage your team's chances of winning, that is bad. If you think something might count as playing against your side, ask the host if it is.
11. Don't post in the thread at night.
12. Don't post anything that could influence the game after you're dead. This also applies if you aren't in the game at all.
13. Don't copy and paste or screencap anything sent to you by the host as a form of evidence. This is to make your information not super easy to confirm.

also i'd like to include a link to the nuzforums official discord here: https://discordapp.com/invite/HQYdUmC

And now, for the roles (spoilers if you haven't opened An Unmarked Letter):

Kyogre/Rayquaza/Groudon(recruiter + bulletproof): You're literally the incarnation of the Teams. You may send a welcoming message to a user once per night. If you fail, you will be notified that you have failed to recruit the user. You will not be notified why. You may each individually survive one attempt on your lives.

Each user may be recruited as an Artist (Cop), Hacker (Crier), Screenshotter (Doc), Writer (Drunk), or no role, with 20% probability each.
Artist (Cop): You're an Artist! You're good at the Art things, and people like you. Once every night, you can draw out someone's alignment.
Hacker (Crier): You're a Hacker! You're such a good hacker, you can still hack the Announcement System and post things via it during the Day!
Screenshotter (Doc): You're a Screenshotter! You're so good at screenshotting, you can screenshot someone who would die that day and freeze them in place, stopping them from dying!
Writer (Drunk): You're a Writer! Your words are so mesmerizing that whoever you show them to that night forget what they were about to do!

In addition, there's a 20% chance that they're a Nuzlocke Gold Member (Celebrity) with those shiny names. Everyone gets to know that they've aided Tapaexit and their names are announced when they become Nuzlocke Gold Members.

Forumites: You're just a normal user for now, but someday you'll post something and join a Team! SOMEDAY.
(all Tapatalk members cannot be recruited)

Tapatalk (Modified Godfather): You're Tapatalk! Much as the forumites hate you, you host their stuff, so they have to like you somehow. When investigated, you show up as a member of another team other than the team of the player that has investigated you.

Pop-Up Ads (idk what to call this, custom role): Wow are you annoying. Once a night, you can visit someone. If they would have been messaged by a faction, they become part of Tapatalk instead!

those random ass donators to tapa (yakuza): uh, yeah. You may, once a game, at night, declare that "HEY I'M GOING TO DONATE TO TAPATALK, JOIN US". You then die and a collective "F" for your money goes up, but on the other hand, you've convinced someone to join Tapatalk.

GOLD POINTS (Hooker): this was something else until the GOLD POINTS thing. Once a night, you can stop someone from doing something by threatening to go into the negatives.

oh by the way we're at -10.7k gold points on tapa, just thought that would help The Flavor

The Tribunal (Autocrat Prophet Bulletproof Driver): The Tribunal just wants the best for all the Teams. If the Teams defeat Tapatalk while the Tribunal is alive, the Tribunal takes the credit for stopping Tapatalk. However, even if the Tribunal dies, its spirit lives on. It can predict, once a game, which phase the game would end in. They win if the game ends then. They can also survive one attempt on their life, as well as, once a night, choose two players. They can redirect all abilities that would affect one of them to the other one and vice versa. As the Tribunal is responsible for keeping the peace, when it dies, each of the Teams would be able to start killing at night; the kills go in order of teams.

Porter (cannot die, can investigate or night kill once per night, wins and leaves the game if all three recruiters are dead): Porter doesn't take sides in the faction war, they're just doing their job. They may visit up to three people to try to give them mail, or otherwise mail a single player a bomb, killing them (this kill goes through protection). However, they have been known to give mail to people who don't need it - they can only differentiate between the three legendary Pokemon. Their aim is to kill the three legendary Pokemon because they're giving them too much work. If they successfully kill them, or if they die by any other method, they win and leave the game. They cannot be redirected by the Tribunal, and can only kill 3 times in the game. (thanks Bug for letting me use this)
Flavourless and Spoilerless Roles:

Factions:
Recruiters + Bulletproof x3 for each team
When recruited, has a 20% chance to be Cop/Doc/Drunk/Crier/no role, and an additional 20% chance to be a Celebrity on top of that.

Villagers

Mafia:
Modified Godfather
Role that intercepts recruiters and turn their targets to Mafia instead.
Yakuza
Hooker

Third Party:
Autocrat Prophet Bulletproof Driver (when dies, gives the teams a night kill that's based on the team that would first recruit that phase)
Porter (immortal cop that can only find the three recruiters, investigates up to three targets at a time/killer (3-use) that goes through protection, wins and leaves the game if all three recruiters are dead, can be lynched, cannot be driven)

Speed Rules:
Driver
Hooker
Drunk
Yakuza
Pop-Up Ads
Recruiters (Alpha > Delta > Omega, and rotates every night phase after that; ie, Delta > Omega > Alpha for N2, etc)
Doc
Porter Kill (cannot be driven)
Night Kill
Porter Investigate (cannot be driven)
Cop

Win Conditions:
Villagers win with a team if a team would win.
Teams win if all other Teams and Mafia are dead, and the Autocrat is dead.
Mafia win if everyone else apart from the Mafia and Porter is dead (or if they cannot come back from that position)
Autocrat wins and ends the game if the Mafia loses and the Autocrat is not dead, or if they guess the final phase correctly.
Porter wins if the three Recruiters are dead.

If any recruitment fails, the recruiter will be notified that it has failed, but not why it has failed.
If the Yak tries to convert a Celebrity, the Celebrity's new role will be declared.
Tapatalk members cannot be converted to a Team.
I will try to post Crier Cries as soon as I can but I'm only human, sooooooo.
Porter has 3 kills.
Porter cannot be driven, but can be hooked/drunked.
the night kill gained after the tribunal dies goes in order of the recruitment. (eg. if alpha > delta > omega during that night phase, then alpha would get the night kill; if the whole of team alpha is dead, team delta would get the night kill etc.); there should only be one night kill among the three teams at any night.
third parties cannot be recruited or yakuza'd. if the yakuza tries to yak a third party, the effect is refunded and they do not die.
similarly, if they try to yak a mafia, nothing happens and the effect is refunded.
the yak'd target does not keep any of their former roles.
if a recruiter gets redirected they know that they've recruited another person if successful
If the yakuza is protected by a doctor while using their action, they still die and their target is still converted
the night kill can be hooked/drunked.
Recruits will know all the members of their faction, but not their roles. Similarly, recruiters will know who they have recruited, but not their roles.
bulletproof in this game does prevent any one attempt on your life.
if you have been driven and your new target cannot be recruited, you will not be notified that you have been driven, just that you have failed.
The Tribunal's prophet power does not prevent village from winning. This power has to be used while they're alive.

This Pokemon is very relaxed and enjoys analyzing things. This Pokemon is also quick to snark at anything that gives it an opportunity
I was actually completely indifferent to Tapa for some reason. Then again I'm completely indifferent to most things in life so that probably explains it.

Anyways in

made some modifications to the roles (tl;dr below):
when the tribunal dies, the teams gain the ability to night kill. the night kill goes in order of the recruitment. (eg. if alpha > delta > omega during that night phase, then alpha would get the night kill; if the whole of team alpha is dead, team delta would get the night kill etc.)
porter's kills can go through bulletproofing.
porter does not have a limited amount of kills. they can kill as much as they want to. deleted because i'm good at balance.
porter can investigate up to 3 targets at a time. (i reserve the rights to change this number based on the signups lol)

also i'm looking for approximately 20 (don't really have an upper limit) for this game, so if you know more people who'd be interested please ask them to join too.
