Personal Report #18 (November 28, 2010):

11-27-2010 11:00 AM (Axis' perspective)
After getting acquainted with one another, we all decided to head to the breakfast buffet here in the hotel in Cerulean City (albeit later than usual). Having a team of an absurdly humanoid/anthropomorphic Kadabra & Gyarados, plus a seemingly ordinary Charmeleon & Nidorino, all four capable of speaking in a humanoid manner, all led by a hooded guy with a cloaked face...probably not the most subtle combination to have walking in on a breakfast buffet with maybe an hour at best remaining for the morning.

Once we got there, needless to say the morning was quite interesting. Quinlan was amazed at how quickly he got used to performing all the basic movements someone with a humanoid body could perform (walking around, talking, exhibiting human-like emotions, using his hands & stuff), considering he had evolved from just an ordinary Magikarp mere hours ago. What was even more astounding was how suddenly he understood how to not only understand human speech, but be able to communicate via human speech in return. I suppose most Pokemon suddenly having a whole slew of humanoid traits/features bestowed upon them inexplicably would feel this way...although I have to wonder how they would know to react in such a manner, let alone know to acknowledge such a thing. Abraham was also having the same thoughts as Quinlan, though he already pretty much had his "moment of epiphany" earlier.

One could imagine the odd looks our team was getting. Thank goodness there were so few others at the buffet at the same time as we were. As per usual, Scorch was opting for the spicy/savory stuff. Nikolai seemed to have a preference for more natural stuff (anything fruit or vegetable-based). Abraham on the other hand seemed quite reluctant at picking out anything, and barely filled what few plates he actually decided to grab. Then you had Quinlan...wow, that Gyarados could eat. The guy was going for plate after plate of the french toast, the waffles, the eggs, the chicken tenders, you name it. At one point, he even hissed under his breath at another trainer sitting nearby who was looking over in mild disgust. Eventually, we were done with eating, and decided to head back to the hotel room to rest for a bit longer, considering a lot has happened in the past few days.

11-27-2010 4:00 PM (Axis' perspective)
We were simply relaxing in the hotel room. Abraham was meditating to pass the time (whilst floating no less...interesting, it's almost like looking in a mirror), Scorch decided to sleep in his Poke Ball, Nikolai opted for the same in his own. Quinlan laid in bed for few hours before "slithering over" to the pool. As reluctant as I was at first to let an unusual-looking humanoid/serpentine Pokemon into the hotel's pool, I let him go anyways. I figured he's a Water Pokemon, he's gonna get bored if he's away from water for too long. I was simply sitting in a chair, just channel surfing. Nothing really interesting caught my attention.

Advertisements from different department stores (although one of them is supposedly nearby in some city named Celadon), a casino/arcade (OK, this one actually piqued my interest to be honest. I wanna go to this one, plus it's near the Celadon department store), some random cooking shows using a bunch of odd-looking berries/fruit, there was something with a bunch of humanoid-looking Pokemon wearing different outfits or costumes competing in some sort of wrestling tournament (this seemed mildly amusing for the few seconds I went past it; I wonder how Quinlan would do in something like this, since he looked most fit out of everyone on the team to be in it, given how the competitors I briefly saw looked), the list went on...

Then I came across a breaking news report. It was covering how the bridge going towards the cape north of Cerulean was out after last night's storm, making the two routes north of here virtually inaccessible until further notice. Apparently the abandoned shack I retrieved Abraham out of had burned down sometime afterwards that night. From the looks of it, the shack was struck by lightning, which caused it to go up in flames...must've been part of the batch of lightning strikes that triggered the bizarre evolutionary occurrence in both Abraham & Quinlan.

Although, it did make me think...what if I had not rushed out towards the cape in time before the storm started & blocked out the bridge? What if I had not gotten Abraham out of the shack before the storm began & eventually caused the shack to be incinerated? If anything...what if I did not have Quinlan with me when Abraham & I were cornered by all those possessed Pokemon that emerged out of that cavern across the river? So many questions...no telling how things would've played out differently if they could've...

11-28-2010 6:00 AM (Quinlan's perspective)
OK...so there's this place you can fight at to prove your worth, and your leader gets some sort of medal as an achievement. Abraham walked in here yesterday, looked around, got back to the hotel room, and told me everything. This morning, I go to check it out for myself. The battlefield is freaking giant swimming pool! I wanna battle in here ASAP! I gotta tell chief as soon as he wakes up I wanna fight whoever gives out those shiny-looking medals & win one for him. Also, on my way to the gym, I tripped over this stupid pink lizard/hippo-looking Pokemon sleeping in front of a bush planted in a gap in a fence across some sort of bike shop. The heck was it just randomly doing there?!

Personal Report #19 (November 29, 2010):

11-28-2010 9:00 AM (Axis' perspective)
The one time I decide to try to sleep in...something else decides otherwise...or rather, someone.
In this case...Quinlan. The Gyarados just bursts into the hotel room excitedly, and shakes me awake. Feeling hungry & groggy, I can barely make out what he's saying at first. Eventually, I perk up, and get Quinlan to reiterate to me that he eagerly wants to battle in the Cerulean City Gym. This silly serpent woke me up for this?

11-28-2010 11:00 AM (Axis’ perspective)
More breakfast, washing up, getting ready, and...we are now on our way. I suppose we'll check out a day or two after we finish up our business here in Cerulean, by winning the next gym badge...I think that's how that works, right? Between the evolutions, chases, research, and all my Pokemon suddenly all capable of humanoid behavior...I've lost track of what to remember from how this Pokemon battling stuff works. Luckily, I write everything down, so I don't forget (hence these entries). Quinlan leading the way to the next gym was like a child eagerly pulling their parent along with them to the toy store, candy shop, or whatever, I imagine.

11-28-2010 12:00 NN (Abraham's perspective)
Hi, Abraham here. I never did one of theses journal entries before. Master Axis told me it would be a good idea for someone to alternate with him, while he's busy with his duties as a Pokemon trainer. He's busy enough as it stands with his research, so I started helping him out. I was able to get up to speed & get a feel for everything very quickly. I am a psychic myself after all. I am honestly surprised Master Axis himself is a psychic too. I feel much more comfortable in my own skin, knowing my own team's leader is able to act as a proper mentor for me. He saved my life, so I feel I must return the favor, and devote my time to being as helpful as I possibly can to both him, and the rest of this team I am now a part of.

Right now, we are trying to collect these badges a Pokemon trainer is required by the authorities to rack up eight of in order to enter this final challenge called the Elite Four. I hope Master Axis is willing to see this through. I can sense the reluctance in him, although I perfectly understand why. He cares for us very much, despite only having gotten to know us for a short period of time. Sure a perfectly pure soul inside of him. I am honored to look up to someone like him.

At the moment, Master Axis is talking to this female trainer in charge of the battle facility here in Cerulean. I assume they are arranging for a battle match between our team, versus hers. Master Axis insists that myself, Scorch, and Nikolai watch from the sidelines, due to our typing and/or defenses. Or rather, the lack of in my case, unfortunately. Luckily, we seem to have an ace on the team now. Quinlan Oceanside, a rather humanoid-looking aquatic serpent Pokemon descending from an ancestry of much larger, hard-hitting serpentine Pokemon. Quinlan appears to be more than ready to have a go at earning the second badge for our team. I suppose with the way this facility's battlefield is set up, Quinlan will be on even footing with whatever he will be up against, since he's a Water-type Pokemon himself.

<actual situation unfolding below, not in report>

The battle commences, Quinlan up against some sort of star-shaped, mineral-looking, brown extraterrestrial Water Pokemon, supposedly named 'Staryu'.

Staryu's gem-like core begins to blink, as it flies towards Quinlan.

The Gyarados puts his arms up to protect his torso & face, successfully deflecting the starshape's full-body Tackle attack.

Quinlan retaliates with his own physical lunging attack, propelling himself towards Staryu by jetting out aquatic bursts from his feet. He strikes the star with the full force of his muscular body, sending Staryu flying into the wall behind it.

The Staryu is partially lodged into the now-cracked wall, it's own gem-like core also cracked. Staryu has been defeated by the Gyarados.

Misty, amused, but also annoyed at the apparent shoo-in maneuver from the unusual-looking Gyarados, sends out her own ace to fight the Gyarados next.

The newer, larger, faster starshape Pokemon, has a more elaborately-shaped jewel core, a rigid, purple-colored figure, and a starshaped propeller behind it for extra speed. This one is named 'Starmie'.

Before Quinlan can react, the Starmie dives underwater, confounding the amphibian Pokemon, who is currently standing on a small platform floating atop the giant swimming pool battlefield.

As Quinlan anxiously looks around for where the Starmie has gone to, the starshape jumps out from the water in front of him, shooting a sonar-like pulsing blast of water at the bewildered dragon fish.

The Gyarados flails his arms wildly as he's knocked back from point-blank range, falling into the water behind him.

But with this, he suddenly remembers being underwater is also an advantage for him, as much as it is for this nimble Starmie.

Both Pokemon are now duking it out underwater, Starmie striking first once again, this time with a series of beam-like stars swiftly striking Quinlan.

The Gyarados, now enraged, hisses at the Starmie and swims towards the psychic-starshape Pokemon, grabbing onto it with his arms & legs. Quinlan starts biting down on & punching the starshape now in his clutches.

The Starmie then spins in place rapidly, sending Quinlan flying out of the water into midair.

Quinlan flails about once again, but then suddenly gains control of himself in midair (not realizing until now his partial Flying-type essence).

The Gyarados then dives down towards Starmie, who has now emerged from the water itself, flying up towards Quinlan.

Quinlan puts his arms up in front of his face, and strikes Starmie with all his might.

The Starmie falls down, hitting the floor marble floor hard, paralyzing it.

Quinlan lands safely in the water nearby, leaps back out, and then swings his fists at the immobilized Starmie, striking it's core.

The hard gemstone core is shattered, and a dent in the floor is created around the now-defeated Starmie, as Quinlan stands before it.

He roars out victoriously into the air, vibrating the windows, and everyone else's ears.

Misty, shrieking at both the noise, the injuries her Staryu & Starmie have taken, and the damage done to her gym, promptly surrenders.

Axis, amazed at Quinlan's power, but also shellshocked at just how powerful the Gyarados anthro was...is now at a loss for words.

<end actual situation, continue report>

11-28-2010 2:00 PM (Abraham's perspective)
We have two badges now. The Boulder Badge, and the Cascade Badge. I just hope Master Axis is not too upset at Quinlan. I sensed Master Axis' reluctance from the beginning, and also Quinlan's persistence. I knew beforehand from research that Gyarados were powerful to begin with, but never would any of us have imagined that a smaller, human-sized/shaped Gyarados would be just as strong.

Thankfully, it does not seem that there are any repercussions or dissuasion for collateral damage to the battle facility. Considering the power Pokemon are capable of, I would hope this is the case. I can tell a rift formed between Master Axis, and the Gym Leader. I could tell that she was reluctant to hand over the badge, Technical Machine, and prize money for an easy win. Similarly, I could tell he was reluctant to accept the rewards, given how crude Quinlan's fighting style was.

The rest of us were watching in amazement & awe at first. But then, soon it became a bit more of watching in shock, and slight fear. Hopefully, all will be forgiven, and this will blow over pretty soon.

11-28-2010 4:00 PM (Quinlan's perspective)
Heheheheheh, wew that was a lot of fun. I wanna do that again at the next gym we go to. Oh man, it feels so good to be on top, and emerge victorious. Boss told me dragons like myself tend to be on top, and with this power I can feel within me, he's totally right. Plus, surrounded by own watery element made the experience feel a whole lot better.

I'm hungry now, and I'm craving all the food this serpentine metabolism can process in a heartbeat. I hope we can stop by somewhere for food before we leave this city.

11-28-2010 5:30 PM (Scorch's perspective)
Quinlan's power is a lot more than mine. I never thought reptilian Pokemon could be so tough & powerful. I hope I can evolve into a flying dragon like him someday. I want power like that too.

11-28-2010 8:00 PM (Nikolai's perspective)
Nidooo...I thought I was the most powerful on the team. Now I've been outclassed by Quinlan. I'm proud of him though, thrashing his way to victory like that. That was a thrill to have witnessed.

11-29-2010 12:15 AM (Axis' perspective)
After the gym battle, we went straight back to the Pokemon Center for recovery & stuff. Quinlan claimed he was perfectly fine, but apparently his power & adrenaline rush mid-battle prevented him from experiencing any pain, or soreness post-battle. In other words, he needed to heal, but he didn't feel like he needed it. I sure hope he doesn't overdo it...like other trainers' Pokemon have...only to collapse, and never wake up again. I'm happy for Quinlan, I really am...but I don't want his reckless, destructive, devil-may-care fighting style get the better of him one day...

Anyways...after resting at the hotel room, we're having dinner now here at some pizzeria that was still open late. Scorch, Nikolai, and Abraham are sharing one pie. I'm having my own personal pie. But Quinlan...that Gyarados has already gone through one large pie like it was nothing, and is still eating this second pie.

Man, raising these boys is going to be expensive...and difficult. I think I'm more than ready for it though.

Personal Report #20 (November 30, 2010):

11-30-2010 6:45 AM (Axis' perspective)

I didn't really make an entry for the rest of yesterday, so I'll at least try to make up for it by getting you up to speed with this entry instead.

Yesterday morning, I simply decided to check out of the hotel in Cerulean, and have everyone pack up. By midday, we were on our way down south to wherever our journey decided to take us next.

We passed by what appeared to be a Pokemon Care Place, but it was closed for the day, so we just continued onward.

I didn't really feel like having the boys subjected to any encounters/battles, be it against wild Pokemon, or against other trainers' Pokemon.

I felt like having the team keep a rather low profile for a bit anyways.

I figured after the battle back at Cerulean Gym, suspicions would be raised over multiple things, Quinlan at the top of the list.

About midnight last night, we eventually made it to the next town/city limit, wherever this is.

Quinlan told me he could sense the ocean nearby (despite how dark out it was), so I imagine we are at some sort of seaside city, or a port city of sorts.

I couldn't get much sleep after we settled into the hotel room at this city's Pokemon Center, so I decided to simply step out for some air this morning.

This is in fact a city by the sea. Vermilion it's called apparently.

There were a few things I walked past on my way to the port.

Some sort of high-class looking club...another bike shop...another supermarket thankfully...but...I don't see a Pokemon Gym around here though...

I could see boats & ships at the port, at the southern end of the city.

In particular, there seems to be a rather big one that stood out to me; a cruise ship, supposedly named the "S.S. Anne."

I'm just here watching the sunrise gradually unfold here.

Seeing some islands??? or other places in the distance on the other side of the water gives off the impression that this appears to be some sort of large bay that eventually spills out into open ocean.

I have to wonder if the other side is just more of Kanto...or if it's a different region altogether...hmm...

With the first pair of chapters for Nuzlockology: FireRed now fully finished & released, I figured I'd take a moment to thank everyone who has kept up with the series so far. There is still a lot more to write, which luckily I have all planned out. And, with the backlog of what I've written/released previously elsewhere now resolved & all caught up on here, I can now focus on writing the upcoming entries with a fresh feel.

For now, here is the first of many debuting concepts of artwork I plan on gradually releasing on here (with plans to release one art piece at the end of each chapter of a character from the Nuzlockology series as they make their debut in later entries):

Personal Report #21 (December 1, 2010):

12-1-2010 1:00 PM (Axis' perspective)
Abraham & I have been hard at work with doing further research on Nuzlocke Disorder, and whatever anomalies, oddities, occurrences, and events that may or may not be tied in to this outbreak. Abraham's own curiosity sure has been piqued, and despite having been part of the team for only a few days so far, he's caught on extremely quickly. Guy's like a prodigy, an apprentice if you will. I guess that makes me his mentor, in all this psychic, floaty, nerdy, academic, and researching business. Having a fellow psychic around must be quite the life not just for him, but for me as well; a literally like-minded entity to share common ground with.

I'm currently taking a brief break from research work to write this entry up. I asked Abraham if he wanted to stop for a moment (even just for lunch), but the Kadabra insisted that doing research, 'for the greater good of fellow Pokemon-kind,' was more important. I have to hand it to him, he's really disciplined for someone I feel is a bit too 'young' to already be acting this way, but I still feel unsure if he should be allowed to work himself this hard.

Anyways...we've both been trying to make heads or tails of why both Abraham himself, and even Quinlan are so unusually humanoid (or 'anthropomorphic' as it's supposedly called in the trade) for their forms, even for Abraham. Much of the research has pointed towards Nuzlocke Disorder itself. To start, there are different sorts of 'Egg Groups' or 'Breeding Groups' for the hundreds Pokemon that appear to exist in the world here (much more than I could possibly imagine actually). Some Pokemon are more animalistic, or feral. Some tend to be this sort of mammalian-esque form. Some are even aquatic, amphibian, or reptilian. Then you have these odd non-animal/non-mammal variant of Pokemon. Finally, you have the humanoid Pokemon; bipeds complete with exactly two arms, two legs, a torso, and a head. Even outside of this human-like Pokemon genus, there are some still partially humanoid within the mammalian field for instance.

Based on all of this research, in addition to my team's own firsthand experiences, I did a bit of extrapolating. So...it seems that Pokemon contracting Nuzlocke Disorder seem to be affected by it, showing it through not just the obvious 'mortem-syncope' part, but by way than that. Maybe...Nuzlocke Disorder is some sort of...mutation...or rather, an un-mutation. From what I have researched, it seems that there are segments of Pokemon DNA sequences that either partially match DNA sequences in humans/humanoid entities, or appear to match such sequences if 'hypothetically' swapped around. What if...maybe, just maybe...Nuzlocke Disorder is just that? A puzzle game where the affected Pokemon's DNA sequence is being switched around, and mutated back into what seems to be a consistent with a distant human ancestor that first experienced the initial mutation into the first Pokemon for that bloodline?

It seems that these mutations tend to be on a spectrum of sorts of increasing intensity. Minor symptoms consisting of comprehension of human speech being expanded into not just understanding it on a receiving, level, but also being able to learn to reciprocate human speech & communicate as such; more moderate symptoms involving thinking, behaving, and acting less & less animal/feral-like, and more & more human-like; and the more extreme cases involving the most bizarre part, the effects of the reverted & partially un-mutated DNA being fully unleashed when a Pokemon's sudden evolution is triggered...almost as if Nuzlocke Disorder has been creating this completely new & unheard of evolutionary branch, almost like a bipedal/upright evolutionary branch where the Pokemon in question are evolving into a sort of humanoid form for their species.

In one of our own cases, Abraham's bloodline seems to have already had a solid enough foundation or prerequisite of partially humanoid genetic makeup to allow this evolution into a more complete humanoid form as a Pokemon. So chances are, the extent of mutation may not be too extreme in Abraham. On the other hand, you have the less intense cases within Scorch & Nikolai, where one is behaving, talking, walking around in a humanoid manner, another simply just talking & behaving as such.

Then you have Quinlan...the most extreme case by far. His mutation is most likely a total departure from what his evolutionary pattern normally does. It is nonetheless still a great magnitude (considering what a Magikarp normally does is evolve from a tiny fish that one could carry in their arms into a 30-foot tall feral serpentine being), just extreme in a different sense. Our Gyarados here seems to have the full extent of mutations resulting from Nuzlocke Disorder (if it is all indeed resulting from Nuzlocke Disorder); a generally humanoid physique; a conscience, mental capacity, bodily coordination, behavior, and mannerisms consistent with that of a human, and total command of human speech both ways. And beyond all of that, a somehow already pre-existing battle-ready instinct & combat experience out of nowhere,

Really fascinating stuff to be perfectly honest, but even if Nuzlocke Disorder is responsible for all of this, both the bad & the good...that doesn't answer the remaining questions still looming over Abraham & I. Where is this Nuzlocke Disorder coming from? Was it just the nuclear fallout? Does it have another source, and the nuclear radiation part is just a scapegoat? Or maybe both the nuclear radiation & whatever is the source of Nuzlocke Disorder may be two similar sources of radiation, or even one & the same source? And what is with the Missigno GHOSTs anyway? Do they tie into all this, and if so, how? So much more Abraham & I need to look into...

Personal Report #22 (December 2, 2010):

12-2-2010 12:00 NN (Axis' perspective)
Abraham decided to stay behind in the hotel room at the Pokemon Center here in Port Vermilion to continue doing research. Scorch & Nikolai are currently resting in the room, with Abraham nearby. Quinlan & I are now taking a walk around the city, just to see what everything's like around here.
We stopped by at the supermarket to stock up on supplies & food, and let me tell you. I could not count on hand how many times during our visit to the mart that I had to [telekinetically] drag Quinlan away from the seafood section. This Gyarados was repeatedly 'slithering over' (he's anthropomorphic, so not literally slithering) to the fish area, staring at every tank he could, and even hissing at the barrels of crabs. This guy is one silly serpent, despite being the strongest Pokemon on the team (I think).

Eventually, we made our way through the rest of the city, and...one, this city's bike shop is closed too?! Forget the bike shop, where's the gym? The map keeps saying this city has the next Pokemon Gym, but I do not see it anywhere in sight. I tried to find out if maybe it was underground or something, so we started for this cave at the eastern end of the city. Quinlan kept looking out towards the ocean though, almost as if he wanted to jump into it for a swim or something. Must be a Water-type instinct, I imagine...

When we got to the entrance to the cave, Quinlan suddenly leaped in front of me, and began to hiss loudly, his fins standing up & all. I couldn't see anything in plain sight, so I was puzzled at first. Then...I closed my eyes, and decided to use my psychic power to try to sense what was inside the cave. It seems to go down into some sort of naturally-formed tunnel, as if it was dug & excavated by something. Also...a lot of holes/pits? And...I sense a lot of Pokemon down there, and I mean a lot. But...nothing like what the team encountered back in Mount Moon. And...they seem to be bobbing up & down repeatedly, vibrating or something...? And, theyre moving really quickly too...I don't get...I really do not get it...but Quinlan insists that going in there is not only not where the supposed Pokemon Gym for this city is located, it's apparently too dangerous to go in there?

So...we did an about face, and kept looking around the rest of the city. In a clearing in the northeastern part of the city, there seems to be a construction site for what seems to be an office tower, and a co-op apartment building. Wonder how long it'll take to finish...and, I spotted several of those humanoid Pokemon similar to the ones I saw back in the Indigo Plateau owned by that fighter guy. They appear to be helping out some construction workers with building & whatnot. Still can't get over why Quinlan reacted the way he did over that cave though...
