welcome back to Lost in Translation, where we invalidate the whole point of the update!

as so leech life has been buffed to sun and moon levels
excellent
that's what it is in the franchise right now, yes.
apparently i'm dumb and a gen 3 kinda person

but also, note that the pp hasn't been nerfed, making it the best of both worlds.

I'm betting on eleven, seems like a safe bet
kinda surprised that you got it! it will be the next update, yes.

...why does Omanyte have a trade evolution like the rest of the mons in that list? Now I'm hella curious.
i would guess it's a helix joke but then this is a japanese hack.
yeah idk, i need to find an omanyte first before seeing what happens.

Also this means pre-Gym 1 Alakazam assuming my intuition is correct. This game sure is weird!
well, problem with pre-Gym 1 Alakazam-

you know what this means, right?

big boom

if you didn't see this coming then i have nothing to say

shopping
(one Trade Stone to replace the one I used, 3 Quick Balls, one Heavy Ball and a bunch of Pokeballs)

feeling rich, played the gacha

got fresh water

confirming that gacha sucks

the grind

finally

Kadabra get.

(Confusion also get.)

yup, that's Confusion, all right.

okay let's go

wait wait wait

h

hhhhhh

Harry (Lv 16 Alakazam*), Modest(+SpA, -Atk), Synchronize, Snatch/Split Bomb/Kinesis/Confusion

yer a wizard, Harry.

(I didn't think to check its IVs, but the way this hack goes they may be optimized or something, I'm not sure)

among these, I believe the more unfamiliar move is probably Split Bomb - I translated the name previously when we were all the way in Viridian, back in Update 4. Back then, I believed it was a Fire-typed move thanks to its name and distribution on TCG cards, but obviously I was wrong - it's 120/75 Rock Special, and seems to have an additional effect; testing it is a little hard right now for reasons I'll highlight a little later though.

(addendum: it may simply be "hits both targets in a double battle"; i'll test it eventually)

(addendum the second: this reminds me that i should go and buy moves from Viridian)

first and foremost
first and foremost
first and foremost

if you were not expecting this then well

Samarium is a thing.

It's another metal (like most of the other things we've seen)

and slowly oxidises in air.

Industrial applications include permanent magnets.

time to actually do the ship.

growlithes are the bane of my life

actually any fire type in general

at least i probably won't need to deal with a fire type in the next gym unless you're telling me misty imported a volcanion.

as we've learnt previously Europium is a surprisingly good answer; he's just tanky.

And heals.

and now, to the main problem with Harry here.

i don't have a single badge.

obedience is literally the last thing on its mind.

oh well.

proving that we can't do a single thing at a time, let's go inspect this Gym a little

yak yak

AAAAAAA SEND HELP

it went better than expected

and well,

crackin' open some doors

and fleeing because it seems like you're supposed to do Misty before Surge.

okay, let's talk Team Comp.

This team does not look like a healthy team to bring against canon Misty, much less the Misty here.

We have 3 'mons here outright weak to Water.

(ignore the fact that coverage will wipe out the rest of my team)

So, what would my next move be?

let's go

goooooooooo

the sprite is similarly off-coloured.

side-by-side comparison.

Samarium (Lv 5 Magikarp), Modest(+SpA, -Atk), Swift Swim, Splash
Samarium (Lv 5 Delta Gyarados), Modest(+SpA, -Atk), Intimidate, Splash

it doesn't get the cool gimmick of "levitate with electric/steel", but this might do?

I could use it to bait out Ground-type moves for the switch to Europium.

that's a backsprite.

don't mind me, playing with that poison

then i remember to go back to loot things

Super Potion

Marshtomp!

the other guy had these three.

Horsea/Shellder/Tentacool, if you can't tell 'em apart.

ROOM NINJAS

Marill/Corsola. (and Pidgeotto, I guess)

we've seen Mantine.

we have not, however, seen Remoraid.

this is Rest.

drizzle pelipper and starmie with hydro pump and Super Psy (apparently another TCG move, here it seems to have a chance to boost EVERY DAMN STAT) is fun right

his friend is more normal

AMBUSHES

cake girl

kid on the left had Aipom, which insisted on Tickling me.

this is Brick Break! cool.

taillow and poochyena.

by this time, i realize that Samarium is completely not learning a single damn thing.

so I went to check this, and apparently it's Ice. Not bad, I think?

so I throw on Awaken Power Ice and Return

all the dustbins here still only have berries.

Great Ball still here.

Sailor on deck had these - Hitmontop still comes with Intimidate

bought a bunch of Return

and I'm just going to say I'm ready, probably.

Mercury (Lv 24 Ivysaur)@Miracle Seed, Naive(Neutral), Overgrow, Tackle/Sleep Powder/Leech Seed/Razor Leaf
Europium (Lv 27 Delta Charizard)@Shell Bell, Mild(+SpA, -Def), Levitate, HP Ghost/Dragon Rage/Overheat/Metal Claw
Yttrium (Lv 17 Phanpy), Hardy(Neutral), Pickup, Tackle/Growl/Defence Curl/Flail
Boron (Lv 21 Accelgor)@SilverPowder, Adamant(+Atk, -SpA), Sticky Hold, Leech Life/Pester/Acid/Mega Drain
Uranium (Lv 20 Growlithe)@Pineapple Candy, Modest(+SpA, -Atk), Intimidate, Nibble/Flame Tail/Bite/Odor Sleuth
Samarium (Lv 16 Delta Gyarados)@Pineapple Candy, Modest(+SpA, -Atk), Intimidate, Splash/AP Ice/Return

Next time, Misty.

Oh it was actually just... a trade. For a shiny. I'm wondering if that Omanyte trade gets you Kabuto, then.

Harry won't listen to you. Does this confirm you as Snape?

welcome back to Lost in Translation, where we finally do the gym.

Oh it was actually just... a trade. For a shiny. I'm wondering if that Omanyte trade gets you Kabuto, then.
i have no clue, but the thing is - kabuto was accesible since viridian, so
Harry won't listen to you. Does this confirm you as Snape?
snape = potions = chemistry, chemist is snape confirmed

mood
well

it is a

trade evolution
:V
oh yeah, between the last update to this i found out that eevee can have adaptability

this could explain what happened with that lv 25 eevee in celadon

now then

guys we have to beat misty

reminder from last update when i said i was ready.

Mercury (Lv 24 Ivysaur)@Miracle Seed, Naive(Neutral), Overgrow, Tackle/Sleep Powder/Leech Seed/Razor Leaf
Europium (Lv 27 Delta Charizard)@Shell Bell, Mild(+SpA, -Def), Levitate, HP Ghost/Dragon Rage/Overheat/Metal Claw
Yttrium (Lv 17 Phanpy), Hardy(Neutral), Pickup, Tackle/Growl/Defence Curl/Flail
Boron (Lv 21 Accelgor)@SilverPowder, Adamant(+Atk, -SpA), Sticky Hold, Leech Life/Pester/Acid/Mega Drain

Samarium (Lv 16 Delta Gyarados)@Pineapple Candy, Modest(+SpA, -Atk), Intimidate, Splash/AP Ice/Return

Honestly Yttrium is here for moral support. Depending on the 'mons out Mercury might be useful, but i'm honestly expecting lots of bullshit from them here, so

Well, Europium should be a safe switch-in for most things (this also explains why Europium is so high-levelled, it's normally out whenever I expect bullshit)

please just stick to water-types,

oh shit oh shit it's a full team

oh shit it's milotic

level 18 milotic, but still

milotic

bullshit milotic with ice beam

goddamnit it froze Europium too

healing

at least Milotic can't do that much to Europium

of course it has Water Pulse, this is Misty's Gym.

At least I have Lava Cookies?

the rain

more heals

bless leech seed

i think it should be in range now

FIREPOWER

thanks shell bell

next up, Mantine.

i do something that misses, and the damn thing uses Amnesia

metal claw may be a bad move on it, but it'll still do more damage eventually, until i DRAGON RAGE it

also yes that is indeed leftovers mantine

man this game would be funny if it would be willing to give me thief

unfortunately it seems to be designed like vega where all your enemies have the fun items

claw

oh come on confuse ray?

and whirlpool

the damage builds up after a while especially if you hit yourself in confusion

at least the dumb thing can't whirlpool me if i'm already whirlpool'd

more turns of this suffering

and dragon rage saves the day again

this move, though.

it's a 120/75 Special Flying move from the TCG that's been translated as Supersonic Flight.

with a 10% chance of flinch or paralysis

huh

idk what i ever used HP Ghost for anyway

next up is this monkey

new move has that sick Sky Attack animation

gdi heals though

tries again, heals again

FINALLY

oh a quag

oh shit a quag with curse

lemme just try this

welp, it's at +1 Atk, +2 Def

at least i can do this to laugh at it

(move's another TCG move called Mudslide. apparently it has a chance to lower Speed)

eat leech seed and a bird in your face

MIRROR MATCH but I have type advantage

but also no moves

heck, i'm out

what the hell was that, some ground move?

oooo waterfall

dragons are weak to dragons

finally, Starmie

Leech Life vs heals

one more time

it missed the first time but went for this the second time.

Yeah.

this is probably Perfect Coverage Starmie.

(which is using Thunder for some dumb reason, but still)

not a big issue, fortunately.

cash, loot (TM03 is still the same thing), and teamshot!

didn't go as bad as i'd have thought.

that quag was scary though

also just to reiterate:
Lv 18 Milotic@?, Ice Beam/Water Pulse/Rain Dance/?
Lv 19 Mantine@Leftovers, Amnesia/Whirlpool/Confuse Ray/?
Lv 21 Simipour@?, ? (okay admittedly this one was a joke because i slaughtered it)
Lv 20 Quagsire@?, Curse/Mudslide/?/? (probably a water move in there)
Lv 20 Gyarados@?, Waterfall/Ground Move/?/?
Lv 22 Starmie@?, Thunder/probably perfect coverage

this gym is bullshit and it makes me fear for Surge.

time to reorganize and defeat some plot before Surge.

Mercury (Lv 24 Ivysaur), Naive(Neutral), Overgrow, Tackle/Sleep Powder/Leech Seed/Razor Leaf
Europium (Lv 28 Delta Charizard), Mild(+SpA, -Def), Levitate, Supersonic Flight/Dragon Rage/Overheat/Metal Claw
Yttrium (Lv 17 Phanpy), Hardy(Neutral), Pickup, Tackle/Growl/Defence Curl/Flail
Boron (Lv 22 Accelgor), Adamant(+Atk, -SpA), Sticky Hold, Leech Life/Pester/Acid/Mega Drain
Uranium (Lv 20 Growlithe), Modest(+SpA, -Atk), Intimidate, Nibble/Flame Tail/Bite/Odor Sleuth
Samarium (Lv 17 Delta Gyarados), Modest(+SpA, -Atk), Intimidate, Splash/AP Ice/Return

see you next time, where we uh,, i'm not sure, actually.

plot?

Broken image, you forgot an I.

Misty more like Mistmantled! Also Starmie misting Thunder. And you somehow not misting Weird Hurricane.

Man, imagine this gym if you weren't horribly overlevelled. Except Accelgor wasn't and beat Starmie but ssshhh

i knowwwwwwwww lmao, the only guys i trust on my team are Mercury, Europium and Boron

Samarium after it gets up to level maybe, but that big Ground weakness is probably still a thing

Now that you’ve beaten Misty you can use traded Pokemon at least? That’s a thing.
oh yeah.

but also i forgot about it and i've played three updates worth

i'll probably remember the next time i play.

maybe

i wanted to put a snarky comment here but i forgot what i wanted to write.

oh well

let's go the boat

well, we did the gym

hmmmm

let me just

see if we can train this dang thing up before Surge

clearing them gym trainers

Flaafy and Voltorb

scary Manectric

obligatory snorlax

fish guy

guy

seriously,,,

and then it took forever to actually kill using Samarium because Samarium has nothing for moves

rest well Dubnium, I couldn't use you safely in many places but at least you were useful uh

somewhere?

maybe against a Growlithe

Uranium's back on the team for now I guess

pro strats: stand in the one spot where you're forced to do two battles in a go

the Lass had this.

pictured: its death.

well then

roughly done with the boat, let's come back to it a bit later

oops

toilet break

it wasn't obvious previously, but that one guy who was teaching moves here is gone now.

I wonder how you were supposed to afford the expensive moves then

checked some hidden powers

(Yttrium the Phanpy has Dark, Boron the Accelgor has Flying, Uranium the Growlithe has Grass)

checked this out again

hey there canon Silver

it's at Lv 20. Maybe the flag is defeating the Gym?

(Bayleef)

fireeeee

and then both of us swapped out.

(yeah, enemies can swap)

if you're getting slammed in the face by a electric metal thing please run

actually, an electric metal thing that flies - isn't that just a plane

you should be thankful I don't have an thunder-type move yet

actually am I ever getting a thunder-type move

bird

Europium is a little overlevelled because the answer to most things are either "bird" or "dragon rage"

with a small side of "i can tank and overheat the enemy"

rounding out the team, these things

Sneasel, Zubat and Gastly

it was actually a little annoying

so i did this

and Bayleef dies to Boron

for our efforts we get nothing cash again

did i mention that mons are automatically healed here?

anyway, remember this guy?

Hey, the trainer over there! If you want to enter Viridian Forest, you'll have to defeat me!

yeah that was the plan

now i'll just show why it's kinda rude to fight this guy off right at the start of the game

is that a custom sprite?

his name's Midori, meaning green.

leads with Lv 24 Caterpie

annoyingly tanky and the trainer healed it twice, but nothing much

Metapod

uh, we could be here for a while

a lot of this happened

A LOT

a bunch of returns, one of which critted.

(my Return on Samarium isn't max power yet)

didn't want to fool around with this one

Sorry, my Bug Moemon!

I have to quickly bring my Bug Moemon to the Moemon Center
well you do that

he then ran away

that was fun

next time, we explore Viridian Forest

Uranium (Lv 20 Growlithe), Modest(+SpA, -Atk), Intimidate, Nibble/Flame Tail/Bite/Odor Sleuth
Samarium (Lv 18 Delta Gyarados), Modest(+SpA, -Atk), Intimidate, Splash/AP Ice/Return
Europium (Lv 31 Delta Charizard), Mild(+SpA, -Def), Levitate, Supersonic Flight/Dragon Rage/Overheat/Metal Claw
Mercury (Lv 25 Ivysaur), Naive(Neutral), Overgrow, Tackle/Sleep Powder/Leech Seed/Razor Leaf
Boron (Lv 22 Accelgor), Adamant(+Atk, -SpA), Sticky Hold, Leech Life/Pester/Acid/Mega Drain
Yttrium (Lv 17 Phanpy), Hardy(Neutral), Pickup, Tackle/Growl/Defence Curl/Flail

see you then!

Whoops. Fell behind a bit...

Underlevelled or Overlevelled? You Decide!
Making an early prediction that it's both, somehow. Because this game is weird.

Based on the comments I've seen, I'll just leave Lanthanum here for now.
Fair.

okay, this one is interesting. Near as I can tell, you're supposed to come here with one mon, then it gets turned to Lv 5 and you get to cut through a huge dungeon with multiple floors, each changing type and slowly increasing in level. I'm not sure how legal this place is in a Nuzlocke, since, uh, yeah.
Huh. Well, can't deny that's something different! Even if, like many of the features of this game, it's not super Nuzlocke-friendly. Unfortunately.

May apply Pinwheel Clause if I eventually do it, may also try to figure out more about it first, but honestly I'm intending to enter it at least once.
Sounds good.

and then I screw up by leaving Molybdenum in too long against this trainer-owned Growlithe.

I've been a little worried because my team had a huge Fire weakness, but I guess just hoping Molybdenum would tank it was asking for too much.

Rip Molybdenum.
Ooof. Poor Molybdenum.

while looking for backgrounds for the resting box (they're just resting) i found this
Ooh, that's a really nice background for the not-dead box. Very peaceful. Nice pick. (Also, considering all of the BS that keeps happening, you're doing well to have only had two Pokémon KO'd so far.

hhhh (I think this was after using Endure)
Yikes! Several close calls from newer team members this update!

oh

that was not the aesthetic I expected from a Moemon game.
Yeah, it's not very cute, huh. It is cool, though!

AS FOR YOU

I have PRO STRATS READY

GAMER TIER

Magnitude beside Delta-Charizard
:V
Hey, if it works it works.

You, though.

there's a lot of variety on this and it scares me.
At least this is the secondary coverage sort of variety rather than the sudden level spike sort.

take a guess.
Thank you, handy double weaknesses!

Apparently they ignite in air when the temperature is over 400 degC, to which I can only say, same.
#relateable

That's prooooooobably also true for Phanpy, fire resistance, or no.

yadda yadda defeat 5 plot to plot a plot
Hah.

come to think of it this may be canon levels for this area
Yeah, Nugget Bridge is surprisingly vanilla considering everything else that's going on.

don't you dare run

gotcha
Yeah, nice!

Neptunium is named for Neptune. Like the other metals in the same area in the periodic table, it's really radioactive.

half my team is radioactive at this point
Nah, those are just the ambient psychic energies of unknown effect. Don't worry, it's fine. It's fine.

also i checked leech life and WHAT IS THIS

lmao

80/100 physical leech life.

i guess my accelgor is going mixed because this move is the strongest move Boron has
WHAT??? Well, that's definitely something. Good luck for Boron and for you, hopefully you won't run into any enemies packing it.

Geodude's animation is all "rawr i can attack you rawr rawr"
Haha, aww.

Well. Guess you don't have to worry about that radioactivity anymore. (It's really too bad you can't read the text, or that one might not've taken you by surprise like that.)

Harry (Lv 16 Alakazam*), Modest(+SpA, -Atk), Synchronize, Snatch/Split Bomb/Kinesis/Confusion

yer a wizard, Harry.
Another nice change to a boring canon shiny, at least.

at least i probably won't need to deal with a fire type in the next gym unless you're telling me misty imported a volcanion.
Oh god no. That'd be taking improved type coverage way too far.

and now, to the main problem with Harry here.

i don't have a single badge.

obedience is literally the last thing on its mind.

oh well.
Oh. Yeah. That's a bit of a problem with the explore-first approach (which is an approach that I've been enjoying!). Hopefully this won't be a problem for too much longer.

and fleeing because it seems like you're supposed to do Misty before Surge.
Yeaaaaaah, looks like! Thankfully you were able to finish that gym trainer battle without losing anyone.

it doesn't get the cool gimmick of "levitate with electric/steel", but this might do?
Hopefully Misty doesn't have a Whiscash with Earthquake or something.

drizzle pelipper and starmie with hydro pump and Super Psy (apparently another TCG move, here it seems to have a chance to boost EVERY DAMN STAT) is fun right
Yiiiikes. Good thing you had some levels up on them. It's possible to be overleveled in this game, I'm sure, but you ain't there yet. Not for the big stuff.

Honestly Yttrium is here for moral support.
And hopefully won't be called in as a necessary sacrifice... (Because goodness knows what sort of horrors a gym might be packing in a game like this.)

Well, Europium should be a safe switch-in for most things (this also explains why Europium is so high-levelled, it's normally out whenever I expect bullshit)
Yeah, he's really standing out as the team MVP. You use him well.

oh shit it's milotic

level 18 milotic, but still

milotic
Oh, of course. Milotic. A totally reasonable opener for an early game gym. That bodes well.

i think it should be in range now

FIREPOWER
Whew. That was a really long and troublesome fight.

i do something that misses, and the damn thing uses Amnesia
That's totally great and fair.

also yes that is indeed leftovers mantine
Great. And. Fair.

oh come on confuse ray?
Because the confuse hax that's already built into Water Pulse just wasn't enough.

this move, though.

it's a 120/75 Special Flying move from the TCG that's been translated as Supersonic Flight.

with a 10% chance of flinch or paralysis

huh
Wow. Another move that'll be great so long as no one other than you ever uses it. (Given this gym battle, though, don't have high hopes...)

next up is this monkey
At least it's pure water...

It's just ridiculous how it held on with like 1 HP the first time.

eat leech seed and a bird in your face
Whew. That ground type coverage had me worried a little.

finally, Starmie
At least some things haven't changed. Misty's ace is still her ace.

it missed the first time but went for this the second time.

Yeah.

this is probably Perfect Coverage Starmie.
Oh, but of course it's her ace except with perfect coverage. The ol' boltbeam, except upgraded. Obvious in retrospect.

not a big issue, fortunately.
Whew. Good job getting through all that ridiculousness without any fatalities.

also just to reiterate:

Yeah, I think that's pretty reasonable.

see if we can train this dang thing up before Surge
At least you have two whole ground-types to face him with? At least there's that?

seriously,,,
Welp, never mind then. Poor Dubnium.

rest well Dubnium, I couldn't use you safely in many places but at least you were useful uh

somewhere?

maybe against a Growlithe
Since Growlithe seem to be pretty dangerous in this hack, that's not too bad...?

toilet break
They went to all the trouble to sprite it, too. Definitely a good use of the hacker's time.

it wasn't obvious previously, but that one guy who was teaching moves here is gone now.

I wonder how you were supposed to afford the expensive moves then
That's pretty ridiculous. Hopefully he'll turn up somewhere else or something.

actually, an electric metal thing that flies - isn't that just a plane
That does explain a lot about the base attack of Europium's new move. It's just a plane crash, right in the face.

PERFECT name for the new move, by the way.

a lot of this happened

A LOT
Clearly the strategy is to soften you up by wasting all your PP.

didn't want to fool around with this one

I love when the first trainer in the game is smurfing really, really hard

Samarium should eventually get an electric move even if it's a TM since vanilla Gyarados can learn Thunderbolt. The question is how many Thunderbolt TMs you can get.

Ooh, that's a really nice background for the not-dead box. Very peaceful. Nice pick. (Also, considering all of the BS that keeps happening, you're doing well to have only had two Pokémon KO'd so far.

Yikes! Several close calls from newer team members this update!

Yeah, it's not very cute, huh. It is cool, though!

Hey, if it works it works.

At least this is the secondary coverage sort of variety rather than the sudden level spike sort.

Thank you, handy double weaknesses!

#relateable

That's prooooooobably also true for Phanpy, fire resistance, or no.

Hah.

Yeah, Nugget Bridge is surprisingly vanilla considering everything else that's going on.

Yeah, nice!

Nah, those are just the ambient psychic energies of unknown effect. Don't worry, it's fine. It's fine.

WHAT??? Well, that's definitely something. Good luck for Boron and for you, hopefully you won't run into any enemies packing it.

Haha, aww.

Well. Guess you don't have to worry about that radioactivity anymore. (It's really too bad you can't read the text, or that one might not've taken you by surprise like that.)

Another nice change to a boring canon shiny, at least.

Oh god no. That'd be taking improved type coverage way too far.

Oh. Yeah. That's a bit of a problem with the explore-first approach (which is an approach that I've been enjoying!). Hopefully this won't be a problem for too much longer.

Yeaaaaaah, looks like! Thankfully you were able to finish that gym trainer battle without losing anyone.

Hopefully Misty doesn't have a Whiscash with Earthquake or something.

Yiiiikes. Good thing you had some levels up on them. It's possible to be overleveled in this game, I'm sure, but you ain't there yet. Not for the big stuff.

And hopefully won't be called in as a necessary sacrifice... (Because goodness knows what sort of horrors a gym might be packing in a game like this.)

Yeah, he's really standing out as the team MVP. You use him well.

Oh, of course. Milotic. A totally reasonable opener for an early game gym. That bodes well.

Whew. That was a really long and troublesome fight.

That's totally great and fair.

Great. And. Fair.

Because the confuse hax that's already built into Water Pulse just wasn't enough.

Wow. Another move that'll be great so long as no one other than you ever uses it. (Given this gym battle, though, don't have high hopes...)

At least it's pure water...

It's just ridiculous how it held on with like 1 HP the first time.

Whew. That ground type coverage had me worried a little.

At least some things haven't changed. Misty's ace is still her ace.

Oh, but of course it's her ace except with perfect coverage. The ol' boltbeam, except upgraded. Obvious in retrospect.

Whew. Good job getting through all that ridiculousness without any fatalities.

Yeah, I think that's pretty reasonable.

At least you have two whole ground-types to face him with? At least there's that?

Welp, never mind then. Poor Dubnium.

Since Growlithe seem to be pretty dangerous in this hack, that's not too bad...?

They went to all the trouble to sprite it, too. Definitely a good use of the hacker's time.

That's pretty ridiculous. Hopefully he'll turn up somewhere else or something.

That does explain a lot about the base attack of Europium's new move. It's just a plane crash, right in the face.

PERFECT name for the new move, by the way.

Clearly the strategy is to soften you up by wasting all your PP.

Good application of BIRD.
oh hey you're back!

yeah misty was a thing, if Europium wasn't as high levelled as he was I'd be dead

BIRD (or supersonic flight, or weird hurricane) is a really cool move. the accuracy is letting me down a little, but when it hits, it hits.

as an addendum, i'm not sure if pacing it out this much per update is better, or my original pacing of "one playthrough = one update"

the last time we were here.

let's not be here.

PP Up.

interestingly, this area seems to be mapped the same way as original Viridian Forest.

I guess they used the Viridian Forest map for something else?

all the bug encounters we ever need were on Route 2 and 22 anyway, if you recall.

oh yeah battle

i'd just like to indicate that the mons on that first Bug Catcher from last update seemed to have been harder to hit than they should have been?

Does Eviolite exist in this game or something

this battle was riveting, i'm sure

uh

uhhhh

bang

also,

more Starf

i wonder

parlyz heal

last trainer in viridian has this

supersonic flight, but the other direction!

u-turn's fair play though

reminder that technically this place is still Route 2 and I already have a catch

don't think the encounters are different anyway?

welcome to pewter city, the city of rust and dust

good sir, i am not sure there are still bugs out here AROUND ALL THAT SAND

ball selection for Pewter - Great/Dark/Moon/Repeat

this place is open but i have no real desire to see myself underlevelled (yet)

beside the museum i find more berries

Sitrus and Shuca

- wait, Shuca?

huh

I guess I could drop this on Delta Gyarados

i've never really mentioned about these since pineapple candy is superior, but yeah, they still exist

this door leads to the Pewter Warp House

this one is locked

i wonder what's inside

hmmmm

i went in for a look

and turboed into the thousand lightyear guy

i guess i was going too fast

oh shit but also Europium can take that at least

bubble beam vs metal claw

truly, a match for the ages

then this shit gets pulled (I Metal Claw'd once and Potion'd for the other turn)

after a whole bunch of turns hoping it didn't bide again

second mon is this

lileep is fun right

i have no idea why i went for this other than "i thought it'd be funny"

well then

also the levels here are just slightly higher than Vermillion

I guess I should do that gym first

funny one-liner

in our next update

we wipe and i'm forced to use bullshit clause.

no, i'm not kidding.

Does this hack use something like dynamic leveling so that you could theoretically challenge the gyms in any order? Or I guess that wouldn't make sense for that first double battle.

not gonna lie this is one intriguing fuckin hack like holy shit

the delta evolutions, the bs battles, all of those weird af catches.... it's all so interesting to look at!

of course the fact that you wiped and had to use the bullshit clause sounds... less than ideal, for sure, but hopefully that won't be that common for this hack oh god what am i saying this is the same hack where you got a level 100 chansey at the start of the game OF COURSE its going to be dumb

godspeed and good luck with the rest of this wild hack yo

I mean, at this point, it's more likely than not. Why not just slap it on random NPCs to make your life more difficult?

What a weird choice, to have a perpetual sandstorm in Pewter. Even considering the rock-type gym.

oh shit but also Europium can take that at least
Europium is still team MVP by far. (I'm glad at least that the sand outside did not foreshadow a sandstorm team. At least, not for this gym trainer. I wouldn't put it past Brock at this point.)

then this shit gets pulled (I Metal Claw'd once and Potion'd for the other turn)
An Omanyte with Bide on the first gym trainer? Really? This game does not play around. Good thing you caught it in time to avoid springing that trap.

welcome back to Lost in Translation, where we wipe.

and use bullshit clause

but yknow, just something that happens to every nuzlocker, no biggie.

huh it’s actually Solarbeam in both languages.

Great/Dark/Moon.

oh boy
yep

great dark moon is probably the theme of this hack

yep x2

Does this hack use something like dynamic leveling so that you could theoretically challenge the gyms in any order? Or I guess that wouldn't make sense for that first double battle.
this is a good question. I suspect so, but forgot to Actually Check before fighting Misty. I guess I could check Brock's opening levels before fighting Surge (or at least remember to keep a state to check)
uh oh not bullshit clause! that's a sign of things to come

Other than that kind of a small update. A breather for things to come.
yep, i'm making smaller updates these days because some screenshots barely have anything to say about them and some screenshots get like three paragraphs

it's honestly a really cool hack

my main gripe, and probably the main gripe of anyone who would want to nuzlocke this blind, is that instead of gating things off with **TWO BOULDERS** the hacker went the "if you can't beat 'em you can't pass 'em anyway" path.

part of why i still have half a mind of forging through this even if i give up actually 'lockeing this

interestingly enough, if you remember the Misty battle, is that the weather doesn't actually hold in the leader battle. Yes, the Gym Leader uses the relevant weather skill, but it's not to an extent where "it's raining men" all day

Europium is great and really saving my team right now. (it is also terribly overlevelled and i should probably grind other things if i don't want to get eaten up by Surge)

well, as above, I'm guessing Brock will have some things that play well in the sand.

not doing Brock anytime soon, but just saying it first.

i wasn't looking carefully and saw some red effect.

then i decided to remove my finger off the speed button

now i kinda miss having a backlog, it was fun while it lasted

the last time, we entered this fun place

this place is called Pewter Amusement Park, as you could probably tell from the appropriate decor

Pewter Amusement Park Reception - Medal Prize Exchange (?) Room

prizes are nice, let's go

whee

there's 5 of these guys in this counter, i'll be going from right to left

Okay, this one is the moves place and it'll take a while. (for reference, I'm checking these moves in the doc as I see them because I have no way of actually testing some of these)

The first one is Holon Veil, a Status move with 10 PP. Near as I can tell, only 'mons with Delta evos can learn it. What it does is change the type of the 'mon to Electric/Steel.

I guess some interesting stuff could be done with it?

The second one is called Desert Burn. It's on literally one card from the TCG, from the Skyridge expansion.

Here, it's a 10 power Physical Flying move with 100 accuracy and 5 PP.

That might sound like it sucks.

but it also has a 100% chance of Burn, Paralyze, or Poison.

yeah.

Next up is Aiming Ball/Sharpshooter as it was translated, another TCG move. It's a 90/100 Special Grass move with 15 PP and a 20% chance of flinch.

I wonder what gets it.

Fourth up, Metal Crusher (lit. METAL KILLER, I guess?) (my dumb ass put this down as Metal Burn initially) (as usual, another TCG move) (how many brackets can I put here). 140/90 Special Steel type with 5PP, it's basically a clone of Overheat? It lowers SpA by two stages after use.

The second last move is Venom Charge, an original move. 100/90 Physical Poison move with 5 PP, it inflicts Toxic Poison on oneself if one is not (Poison type or Poisoned? I'm not sure) or Steel type. I think there was a Vega move that did similar evil things.

Finally, Giga Burn. 120/100 Physical Normal move with 5 PP, it lowers Atk and Def by one stage. It's also derived from a Pokemon Card, naturally; in this case, Mewtwo Lv. X from Legends Awakened.

okay now that we're done with translation hell

this is easier.

Pokeball x60
Great Ball x20
Hyper Ball x10
Safari Ball x50 (?!)
Master Ball
GS Ball

i guess master ball is a thing any schmuck can buy

well, in this game it's kinda true since i just picked one off the ground, but still

also gs ball.

ugh not this again.

First up, Pokerus Capsule. I assume it does what it says on the label.
Secondly, Special Capsule. It's basically renamed Ability Capsule.
Next is Wide Lens.
The fourth one is - wait a minute that's not Focus Band. Muscle Band, from the TCG. Increases the power of Physical Attacks by 10%.
This is Wise Glasses, increasing power of Special Moves by 10%. (yknow i never knew these were actual canon items, i should get out of Gen III someday)
Finally, for the low, low price of 50 medals, you can but Evolution Stone.

I'm kidding, it's actually Eviolite.

I guess this confirms it's in the game.

now to slap it on Iron.

Shop 4 sells uh

consumables

White Herb
Mental Herb
Energy Powder
Energy Root
Heal Powder
Revival Herb

well

i have no clue if these were changed since i'm lazy to check these, but if these are normal canon versions they aren't worth it

especially that revival herb

unless there's a place that only lets you use the medicine items as healing

well, it's this game, i bet there is

last but not least, 'mons.

Chikorita/Cyndaquil/Totodile/Treecko/Torchic/Mudkip.

i guess one of these could be my encounter for this area.

two shops off to the left, the first sells Pokedolls and Fluffy Tails.

The second, however.

sells medals.

i hope i don't need to translate this

but also, yes, you're looking at it correctly - 100 for max cash

i guess you get to save 1 pokebuck

how the hell is anyone supposed to afford the gs ball

moving on, this guy says it's free of charge

i have no idea

the funny thing is that the vending machines are everywhere

oh right, translate the guy

uh,

idk

Pewter Amusement Park Specialty! Legend Colony!
hold my beer

Johto Legendary Pokemon released (?) here!

the door then proceeds to be locked.

this woman makes some mention of Trainer Tower.

nice decor

also take note of that ledge on the left

sorry, did i say series of ledges?

guess which idiot jumped over them

um, could i get out without running through those two scary looking people down there.

oh.

(there were more screenshots of the same thing - basically the path is blocked in every direction)

Naru: Are you trying to interrupt the rendezvous between the cute us? (yes i know, bad phrasing)

also just get out of the way and don't murder me, i'd be happy.

they're Shiz and Naru - I don't think there are any actual trainers in the game that correspond to them.

UMMMM

[insert meme of that was when i knew i screwed up]

(Breloom and Cloyster, if you were wondering)

notably, both are male, which means, uh, i'm not sure, honestly.

intimidate x2 isn't going to cut it here

i wonder

i then get infighted to death.

you know the move as close combat.

yeah.

implying i can make use of this drop.

i swap in Uranium again to try to use Intimidate? idk

by the way, Cloyster here is Shell Smashing.

i wonder what killed Boron here. Pin Missile? Twineedle? Wait, probably Icicle Spear.

samarium comes back to infight a mushroom

this might actually be the first move that hit

i then get poisoned by effect spore? ??? ? ?????

like, i was already going to die, this is unnecessary

UNNECESSARY

swapped out for Yttrium who then took a Twineedle to the knee

is this the first time we're seeing Yttrium in battle? yes, because i have no clue how to use Phanpy.

idk why i bothered

some sort of sleep move, i don't remember who tossed this at me.

by the way, this is shell smash's animation.

i was very confused in battle.

yeah

pretty much inevitable.

and yes i'm going to bullshit this one.

i was basically going to avoid those two but i hopped a ledge

so yeah

hope yall don't mind this

because, yeah.

okay, normal things resume

ummm

UMMMMMMMMM

okay the concept here is cool and all, like i think it's meant to show that there are paths below and above? but the paths in the walls are kinda twisty and annoying to walk through

arrrrrgh

i'm sure i didn't show off all the paths, i guess i'll go back when i can actually fight that couple having their tete-a-tete

i'm sure you didn't need me to translate this, but let me do it anyway.

LEVEL 100

that's all

Above (?) are trainers of renown! (We) await your challenge! Recommended to have Level 100s on hand.

251 mons for a "State Meter", which I understand to be the IV/EV viewer thing.

this guy just talks

this way to trainer tower

hi trainer tower

this guy seems to take one medal in exchange for a ball

idk?

Great/Hyper/Safari/Net/Dive
Nest/Repeat/Timer/??????

oh, Gorgeous Ball, aka Luxury Ball.

screaming about medals ensue

never

it's not obvious but this area is annoyingly large

some talk about a huge Golbat in Mt. Moon.

I'm not sure either.

roadblock saying something

more seriously i guess the gist of it is that he'll only get out of the way if we beat the league i guess

maybe

i then went to check out levels on this Lass here

Noctowl.

uh

that's Wing Attack.

Nah.

and finally Drizzle Pelipper.

that actually tanked Supersonic Flight

still vulnerable to the rage of dragons

join us the next time where we roflstomp our rival for the nth time

Uranium (Lv 21 Growlithe), Modest(+SpA, -Atk), Intimidate, Nibble/Flame Tail/Bite/Odor Sleuth
Samarium (Lv 18 Delta Gyarados), Modest(+SpA, -Atk), Intimidate, Splash/AP Ice/Return/Bite
Europium (Lv 32 Delta Charizard), Mild(+SpA, -Def), Levitate, Supersonic Flight/Dragon Rage/Overheat/Metal Claw
Mercury (Lv 25 Ivysaur), Naive(Neutral), Overgrow, Tackle/Sleep Powder/Leech Seed/Razor Leaf
Boron (Lv 22 Accelgor), Adamant(+Atk, -SpA), Sticky Hold, Leech Life/Pester/Acid/Mega Drain
Yttrium (Lv 17 Phanpy), Hardy(Neutral), Pickup, Tackle/Growl/Defence Curl/Flail

see you then!

Go north of Pewter: level 45 double battle. One is a Breloom that learns a move it doesn't in vanilla, the other is a Shell Smash sweeper. Also, you're basically forced into fighting them once you hop that first ledge.

Go east of Pewter: level 24 mons that confirm Pelipper's gotten its Gen VII ability.

Shenanigans.

I mean if you're Poison-type you're immune to being Poisoned anyways so that makes the most sense in regards to that medal move. At least the medal moves are more immediately "oh yeah this is a good move" as they go down! (although i'd never use that last one unless i'm running some choice band normal physical attacker or something with Contrary)

Ah, not Vermillion at all then. A new location. Okay, I'm getting a premonition. The wipe wasn't because Surge pulled something unexpected and unfair; it's because one of the amusements in this amusement park is a battle with a Pokémon or Trainer twice your level that you had no warning about or any chance of defeating. That sounds about right.

Here, it's a 10 power Physical Flying move with 100 accuracy and 5 PP.

That might sound like it sucks.

but it also has a 100% chance of Burn, Paralyze, or Poison.

yeah.
Wow. That's pretty good! At least it's not terrifyingly OP to face in battle like BIRD, because I suspect that you/we are only gonna have a chance of seeing it in battle on an enemy.

Wow, I really hope that there's some way to actually earn these besides grinding absurd amounts of cash, because that's ridiculous.

the door then proceeds to be locked.
I'm just surprised that anything around here is closed off to somebody with one badge.

um, could i get out without running through those two scary looking people down there.

oh.
Now that's just mean design.

UMMMM

[insert meme of that was when i knew i screwed up]
Ah yes. And here's the part where you wiped.

implying i can make use of this drop.
This was too much even for Europium. That's dire indeed.

by the way, Cloyster here is Shell Smashing.
Mean strategy to go along with the mean level design.

this might actually be the first move that hit
Ouch.

i then get poisoned by effect spore? ??? ? ?????
Adding insult to injury.

and yes i'm going to bullshit this one.

i was basically going to avoid those two but i hopped a ledge

so yeah

hope yall don't mind this

because, yeah.
No, that was definitely BS. That entire area was clearly designed as a trap. Technically avoidable, sure, but those ledges punishing a slight misstep and the area design funneling you inevitably into this double battle with Pokémon something like 15 levels higher than the gym leader's? Totally a trap. Totally worthy of the BS clause.

okay the concept here is cool and all, like i think it's meant to show that there are paths below and above? but the paths in the walls are kinda twisty and annoying to walk through
I feel like "cool concept, annoying execution" sums up a lot about this game.

THOSE TWO.

i'm sure i didn't show off all the paths, i guess i'll go back when i can actually fight that couple having their tete-a-tete
Yeahhhhh, that sounds like the safest plan.
