Please don't go onto other people's profiles and beg them to read your run. It's highly likely you'll get the complete opposite effect.

    Sorry...
as much as i use discord, it really sucks. i hate it. the fact of the matter is that it kills communities and makes it increasingly difficult for traditional forums to thrive. i'm not the only one who thinks this, am i? honestly.

But idk if it's objectively bad. The internet constantly evolves, and it just happened to be that Discord fills the niche for faster communication and immediate connection that forums can't really provide. But it's like how forums kinda killed mailing lists and how Usenet died. It's just kinda ... how things go.

(Although yeah, Clock, you're not alone. Call me old-fashioned, haha.)

@Minty Electronica I think what sucks though is how it kills the desire to interact on forums which is hard for communities based around stuff like fiction - which tends to appreciate deeper engagement and interest - and moreover it creates an artificial distance particularly in large groups, where it's harder to share and open up or say anything that's not surface level or just going with the flow.

to me it's less evolution and more just another example of society seeking instant convenience particularly when it comes to social media, and I'm not at all convinced that it's for 'the best'. but at the same time there ain't no nostalgia to this, it is what it is.
